Does this mean GrandAm will mandate a 4 speed gearbox and a 6000 rpm limit for all Porsches at the next race?

even in conti challenge the porsches are fast. ST boxsters were smoking the whole field. I think one of the cars broke the previous track record by 2 seconds.

I can't help but believe that Nascar wants GT to be a Camero / Mustang dominate series and will do whatever is needed to make that happen. I hope I am wrong because it is a pretty good series as it is.

2010 Daytona 24: The three cars to turn the fastest GT laptimes from the 24 hour race (ignoring practice/qualifying...talking race speed only) were Porsches. TRG #67 1:49.975, TRG #66 1:50.225, AJR #23 1:50.296.

Yes, the track was fast.... perfect conditions on Sunday morning had everyone running really quick...

Sam Shultz in a DeMan Motorsport/Trade Manage 987 Boxster ran a 2:06.8 smashing the old record, and Jim Hamblin driving a DeMan Motorsport 986 Boxster came in at a smoking 2:07.3 also setting a new record....

Porsche ST cars are just plain fast at Daytona because of excellent aero, that combined with a great driver and new track makes for exciting testing!! I think you will see quite a few more cars in ST stepping it up into the 7's and 6's come race time.

Right because fastest practice (or even race lap in a 24 hr race) means a whole lot.

I was referring to the OP. Who swears up and down the Porsches have all the advantages over all the tube frame cars built by riley etc.

Nice to see Boxsters at the top of the time sheets, there something fundamentally wrong about Honda Civics and Mazda Miatas beating Porsches . Are the Prey and Maxwell Bosters out there too?

You don't think that the 3 fastest race laps being run of Porsches would be indicative of Porsche having the speed to be competitive in 2010? Over an entire 24 hour period, Porsches were the 3 fastest GT cars on the track. How the heck else would you define competitiveness? There are 100's of factors that effect how a 24 hour race turns out, but there can be no doubt that rules did not prevent the Porsches from being fast enough to win. They were the fastest cars on track. The race laptimes are far more indicative of potential than practice/qualifying because 1) qualify doesn't mean much in a 24 hour race and 2) the sample size is much, much larger and isn't effected by a single flyer on a killer qualifying setup.

I've never said any such thing. I've said that Grand-Am has done an excellent job equalizing the rules between the cars by pointing out actual lap times and speeds in opposition to a lot of whining here that Grand-Am is out to kill Porsche and wants tube frame Fords and Chevy's to dominate.

This thread started as some good-natured ribbing towards some of the folks I had this same conversation with last January as a result of Porsche's dominance of the recent testing, but obviously there are still folks who contend that Grand-Am is out to get Porsche even though they have proven to be as fast or faster than the tube-frame cars in multiple instances.

TRG combined with Flying Lizards and had some insane driver line-ups as insignificant as fastest race lap over 24 hours is. The next race, The Porsche's couldn't even run qualifying laps as fast as some of the tube frames ran race laps but I guess that gets left out since it doesn't support your sample data.
