Yup. R888's are total pieces of crap for competition. They can work well, briefly, but that's about it. They have a very small sweet-spot when it comes to car setup, they overheat easily, and they fall off sharply after 12-16 heat cycles. I picked up a solid 2-3 seconds per lap at Miller in '09 from going from good condition 6-month-old 20 heat-cycle R888's to beat-to-hell 30+ heat-cycle 3-year-old RA-1's, and other tracks have shown similar results for my car and others. Toyo made a lemon and it's called the R888.

RA-1's are good tires, but Nitto NT-01's give you the same compound and performance without the Toyo-tax.
