For the Google challenged, here's a link with a synopsis of the situation:

Default Maybe a ski resort inside the Nordschleife will fix it . . . not.

A must do for any track rat. My trips there have been wonderful, different from any DE event.

The Nordschleife is the money maker (I hope), the rest (except during track events) is a big money pit.

The attraction of the Eifles is the wilderness (read camping) and the Ring for track rats. I have had no trouble getting local hotel rooms during non event weekends for half the price or less of the track side rooms.

To think Ring Rats are the same people that would fill up those Disney-esk restaurants (Grüne Hölle), a lame amusement park, Casino, and expensive track side hotels was a big business mistake. A handful of events a year can not support such investments thru out the year. Ring rats will spend Euro's on their ride or one more lap ticket, before they will book a posh hotel room, lose at blackjack, or take a ride in an amusement park. What were they thinking.

Really hope the Nordschleife tourist days remain in some form, but the rest of the new investment was a mistake.

Right to the bottom line Glen. Love it.

Now this sound interesting. They have those booze and ammo drive-thrus in Nevada, don't they?

When we do The Ring we do Spa at the same time, there is usually 10 to 15 Cars that go twice/three times a year... absolutely fantastic!

BTW, I have just shipped a car from Baltimore to UK and the price for just shipping was around $800.00 (same cost to Amsterdam)... it does take a couple of weeks and you obviously have a return journey for the car, but it is worth thinking about... just need to catch a flight over and you can drive your own car on the Ring & Spa, now that's special!

I think it's called diversification and the tracks that want to actually BE clubs and draw families are smart to go this route. Limerock would have doubled it's enrollment had it actually built a "Race Country Club" rather than (once again) made a lot of empty promises about it.

I have to research it better. I plan to ship my car to Rotterdam and back for a summer. I believe you need to cars' title so I want to pay it off ASAP.

Take a look at a trip to Pocono vs Mt Tremblant. At Pocono you can buy fireworks and at Tremblant what can't you do?

I am sorry if I don't know enough about the AMP situation and am stepping on your toes. If so please feel free to throw egg on my face, LOL! I can take it.

Bottom line, sure hope the Nordschleife does not get swallowed up by stupid stuff!
No worries, this is all just my opinion which is shared with several people that I've talked to. This is the Southeast, you don't need to persuade people to come to the track. With this track being just outside of Atlanta, there is no need for all of those things. Guys will go to the track based on how much they like the track. AMP could sell it's year out in a month or two just based on location. With Skip Barber running there and adding a few big events (Grand-Am, World Challenge, ALMS) they would be doing just fine.

That being said, there is NOTHING in Dawsonville GA (where the track is going) so unless they build a hotel, no one wants to stay out there anyways.

I just think it's a waste of resources and money to add stuff that most of the people who would pay for a membership have at their subdivision anyways. Yes some people may come in from out of town, but I just don't see enough people wanting a resort type atmosphere to justify the expenditure.

Not only that but the track is slated to be 1.8 miles long (some are told 2 miles when they go on tour, but the website says 1.8) and it's going to need be some serious action in that short of a distance to be exciting enough for people to come all over for it.

I think this may work in some cases, but it certainly isn't needed IMO. Maybe they think they need the extra stuff to not just be the "other" track in Atlanta. But there is enough to go around here.

Who is that shipping with? I've been trying to get a group together to ship our cars over and drive a few tracks in Europe.

The actual ship is Vessel M.V. Tamesis, it's a roll on/roll off service

The company I used was:
Personal Export Service
P.O. Box 1042, Fayetteville, GA 30214
Tel: 770-964-2210 / Fax: 770-306-0561
pesusa@bellsouth.net

Can I just say, if you get the chance, DO IT!... Spa & The Ring are only an hours drive between each other, there are many track days on throughout the year at Spa and you can the pop over to the Ring for evening or weekend sessions (need to check when it's on)... You only live once!!!

Hey Steve, the other noteworthy hurdle is insurance while over there. How do you handle that? I also wonder is there any other regulations or requirements other than having your title in hand? How do you handle registration?

Great info to hear about!

I bet it's like when you buy a car here and do a Euro delivery. You get a temp plate and a few weeks worth of insurance. You do need to buy travel permits for other countries and equip the car with a breakdown kit also. Of course it also may NOT be anything like a Euro delivery...
