Default Official 2011 Pre-season F1 thread

Since the 2010 Abu Dhabi F1 thread is essentially the resting place for the late Sir A.Wayne, I thought having a new thread to discuss the various technical ,team and driver aspects of the 2011 season, which is 4 months away, would allow him to rest in peace.

Or, maybe not, we'll see how it goes

I did like his commentary in the pits, or are we talking about him joining a team after the USF1 failure to launch.

Given the US F1 race in 2012, it would be nice to see a US based F1 team. But given the current economy, I suspect such "marketing" investments are not likely.

Then again, Apple does have $50B in cash . . . iF1 anyone?

Too early Lewis, especially with so little testing and no exiting driver changes.
Wake me up in late February...

Maybe we should resurrect the Peter Windsor vs Will Buxton thread. I think that Will did a great job this year, and seemed to get interview access to drivers and personnel that Peter Windsor could only look at.

Has Sato got a drive for next year?

I would agree that Will did a great job this year! I was doubtful in the early Will days, but have grown to like and enjoy his pitside reporting!

Who was the gent who started the season? I forget his name.

Fernando Alonso is the fastest driver in the history of humanity and it is ridiculous that he must risk life and limb to pass other drivers. Because of this, Fernando Alonso will win every race in 2011 after he and Ferrari lobby their pal Bernie to create the new "Fernado Rule" where if a driver finds themselves in front of Alonso, they will have 5 seconds to move over or risk a "Drive Through" penalty. Oh and because Fernando is the fastest driver who has ever lived, he will not need to qualify anymore. He will automatically be given the pole and will be allowed to jump the start to ensure nobody ever passes him on lap number one. But then who would want to pass Fernando and risk a drive through? Catch-22.

Then all will be well and A. Wayne can return to this site to brag about how his hero wins all the time.

I am doing everything I can do...writing teams on weekly basis.
If I won Powerball, I would give him enough money to get a seat...why not?

I can’t believe it is late Wednesday and still no sign of A Wayne…

I figured by now he would be back, revising the history of the season and insulting many posters for whom he *thinks* he knows more about F1 than.

Westbury Gillet (spelling may be incorrect).

Buxton did just fine. He had a very agreeable attitude, and chimed in frequently with interesting details.

For the record, I'm very skeptical over the 2012 Austin race. IF it happens, I will go, but that's a very big IF in my mind.

I agree, Buxton did a fine job. As far as Austin goes, we need a race in the US and I hope that the circuit stays on track. I also hope that the early design start to the 2011 challenger for Mercedes proves to be a better iteration then the 2010 model.

I like/ed Will from the beginning. I hope they bring him back. He is the youth that is the drivers and the future F1 fans. I think his relationship to the drivers is more peer to peer than Peter's.

I like Peter but I think Will fits the venue.

I'm going to go out on a limb here but I predict A. Wayne chooses FA to win the WDC in 2011. I know, I know, it is a hell of a stretch but I'm feeling daring. :
