Default Video: Spec 911 at 2010 PRC Season Ender at Sears Point

We had a great weekend with the competition being especially entertaining amongst the spec car drivers... Spec 911, Spec Boxster and 944 Spec. It was fun to watch.

Two of our Spec 911 drivers had their sons drive... both have some pro experience. In this video you can see them race. Johannnes won.

Lol. Yes imagine how much faster he would have gone had he only held the wheel in one position only!!

maybe i should start shuffle steering.
JvOB posted 1:48 or maybe lower at infineon in that 911 spec.
on that same day, 996 cup was doing 1:44-1:45
my gutted 3070 lbs (wt = with me in it, but no fuel) street GT3 did only 1:49.

My feeling having driven both an early 911 and my old 993 on track is that with the unassisted steering in my '75, I have to shuffle steer because the loads required are such that not shuffle steering requires too much effort when my hands have to move very far. With the PS of the 993, I didn't have to shuffle steer much at all.

Those are very quick times then given the comparisons.

Just saw a clip of inside Ayrton Senna's car I think at Monaco. He was clearly shuffle steering. Good enough for him...
Not that I say you have to shuffle steer...just that in some cases it still works fine.

When appropriate - setup for big or sustained steering angles - I shuffle steer....

I get the ongoing joke here .... but wonder about the dogma on this subject.

Anyone who has ever coached or competed in a sport at a reasonably high level of performance knows there are no absolutes - once you learn the fundamentals, just use what works in the moment, for the context. Adaptation, creativity, innovation are all part of doing something well.

Thx for posting the vid, great driving

And how many races has his old man Tom won in that same car? As I said on our local forum, don't we all drive the old torsion bar cars the same way? Just with lower levels of competence.................
