This is mounted on an IO-port roll bar mount. I had to go and buy a long bolt and some nuts to fit it and just used one of the mounts that came with the gopro to make it all work. You'll need some washers as well.

I use free software called "MPEG_Streamclip" to convert the video from the native gopro format to a smaller format that is more in line with what youtube expects for 720p video. That native video format is at 60fps, and the video I upload is at 30fps.

Same camera mounted upside down in a spec miata using the suction cup mount. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftX6pyz8fIw

dew-e, the video looks a bit blurry. Does it look better when viewing the original?

If you bump up the quality on the youtube feed to 720p it looks pretty similar. The one thing about these cameras is that you have to do a center weighted focus as well as center weighted brightness control. So, in some of my videos, the camera will be perfectly focused on the rear view mirror, or even part of the dashboard, which can make things outside of the car look blurry. In the miata video, I was more concerned with making sure the camera was not going to interfere with LD's vision on the right side of the car. That mounting location could have been a lot better.

I could probably spend some time with my mounting location and get the camera to focus better outside of the car.

If you don't do a center weighted focus/brightness, then the inside of the car looks really good, and the outside of the car is way to bright. Mounting the camera on the outside of the car, or right up against the windshield, making sure the glass is really clean, will give an excellent out of car viewing angle. For my needs, I really like the rollbar mounted location as I can see myself well, and I can see outside of the car well enough to see mistakes or areas where I need to work on improving my driving.

I emailed GoPro yesterday and asked them if the were planning on marketing a camera with LANC capability as well as inputs for external speakers. Here is GoPro's response.

******************
We are planning on releasing a compatible remote control and microphone however since it is still in development, there are no official release date, price or specs at this time.

Many Thanks,

GoPro Support

Local Costco here in Houston sells GoPro HD for helmet for $179. So, with the suction mount for another $30, the whole setup is under $210. Funny thing is, online Costco wants $239 for the helmet version. Go figure.
