Default Question about old Hoosiers

I got a set of new unused Hoosiers that have been stored in the shop for... here's the kicker...... 5 years. My question is , Is it safe to run them?

If they didn't freeze and they weren't hard and or cracked I would try them. But that's me.

Oh! And I'm on my second apertif.

If these are some old GAC's, you are going to waste a track day. From a safety point of view, they are going to hold air and won't delaminate but don't expect to be fast. I tried some old ones last year and the rubber(after treating it with Formula V traction compound) was about as soft as....concrete. I was scared to measure the durometer for fear of breaking the gauge!

just run that at LS.
and if you end up 1:50, you can blame the tires.
my R6 are 5 years old, corded and 20 HC. so if you blow by me. it's clearly my tires, b/c otherwise i drive FLAT OUT.

Good point. If they're the Grand Am slicks throw them away immediately as they wern't worth a bleep when they were new much less 5 years later. If they're R6's, practice on them and understand that they make take awhile to come up to temp and grip.....

If they are 5 years old they would most likely be R3's... and I would use them in a heartbeat!

I was in a similar situation and tried to run the old Hoosiers that came with the car I bought. Turned out to be a bad idea as a belt broke out on the track causing massive torque steer. I was at a VIR DE on the back straight with no cars around so no harm was done, but it could have been catastrophic in different circumsatnces.

I wouldn't race on them, but I'd use them for practice tires.

Send them to me, clearly they are no good and should be disposed of by a professional....hazardous even....

LOL,
Mount them and run them.
There is no wasted track time on free rubber....

Yea except he's going to be on the track with me next weekend ...

Glen I tried a sticker set of 06' GA Hoosiers earlier this year and they were simply dangerous. I kept going for 30 minutes scrubbing them and trying to get them to come in but I finally just gave up. I wanted to live to race another day. Now I raced a 60+ minute stint in our Tribute to LeMans enduro at Cal Speedway in June on 3 year old Michelin Blues and they were incredible. Fastest lap was the last one....

They are not GA hoosiers thankfully. Let's see how they work out. I'll keep them to practice laps and report back. If they suck I'll buy some trackside at Laguna.
