I'm currently struggling with the same dilemma. Currently rely on the HP of my GT3, which I love, but know that it's taking away from my ability to learn momentum. I'm considering scrapping the GT3 for a spec Boxster. Having a hard time imagining not having the GT3, though.
What about trail braking did he work through with you?

Before you think more about tossing the GT3, hire a pro coach. You'll be amazed at what you can learn. I've only had the pro for a few days, but it has been by far the best money I've ever spent. I've got him booked for three more days later this week and I'm really looking forward to it.

What you'll find is that after a number of days in a momentum car like a miata, or boxster...you'll hop in that GT3 and bang, you'll be 2,3,4 seconds faster on that Monticello loop.
As you know, im a big fan of Rick's, and the money ive spent utilizing his coaching services has meant more to my recent race results more so than any greenbacks waasted on gizmos or consumables. and it has a far longer term impact.
sounds like you're on the right track.
have fun with the Miata. dial back your speed expectations and just focus on car control. for sum certain you'll be full throttle well before the apex, atleast far earlier than youwould in that blue boxster.
glad you had fun.

I am 2 weeks away from getting my first dose of humility from a coach.
It will be interesting to read if the Miata will automatically make Mike faster.
A friend of mine is starting spec Miata racing soon, I will see what it does to his GT3 laptimes.
I came out of a '01 Mustang into '07GT3 and it was hard to unlearn the Mustang way of driving.
Maybe that is why my GT3 never understeered with front bar middle and rear bar full soft ;-)
A Miata is a whole different car of course, but it might als be difficult to adjust between cars..

Sounds like a great time TDM.
I had 2 days of open track at Monticello this year with only a few others present. I would have loved to have a pro coach help me out. There was a member there with a stacker trailer who had a few Deman cars on board. Man was I jealous!
I have to admit that going from the 997 cars to a Spec Box platform has done wonders for my driving. I have just as much fun (if not more) than with my TT and feel so much more connected to the track.
