Yes, gearing was interesting. Andy did say that the DFI C2S has enough torque to use 3rd there and that is what he rec after a few laps ...
T4-5 was interesting. The std DE instruction seems to be to light brake for T4 but hold 4th, downshifting at the harder brake at T5. Andy advised to downshift at the top to 3rd, at braking marker 2 - a quick stab and downshift, turn in, look thru apex to the track out point, and accelerate thru the turn hard, then hard brake to T5. Scott Leder rec the same line/gearing. You and other experienced drovers here know this already I think as it protects position by keeping the car in its power band longer. It is definitely faster the non-DE way.
It was also nice to see the racers-line. Lots of early apexes at this track as some of the more experienced here have already pointed out and noted ...

I just wish I had the data system installed for this event - a reason to do it again I guess... http://vimeo.com/13500088

As a staff instructor @ NJMP I couldn't believe how early he was on so many apex's. Not being a pro racer, as andy is - my only thought is that is the trained way to defend the line. All the racers take the octopus tight to the inside when there are faster ways through that turn, but they give up the inside line for others to creep up on you there.

Just participated in DE at LRP with instructor who was kind enough to show me the racing line as well as the approved DE line. Dramatically different in Big Bend and the Lefthander.

I think that many DE groups overly emphasize the "company line", which tends to be safe and effective, but not the best one for speed. This is appropriate for less experienced run groups. However, as drivers get more experience (and more safety gear), they need to be encouraged to try different approaches to getting around the track. Some organizatuions encourage this officially, and some don't, unfortunately.
I recall a thread from this past spring wherein 10GT3 bemoaned that he (in an advanced run group) was being taught a variety of lines by our advanced instructors, whereas he much preferred the single line approach he received when in beginner run groups. Obviously, that viewpoint generated multiple facepalms here.
Groups that don't encourage the learning of different lines, and/or which label some lines as "race" lines, do a disservice to their customers IMO.
