Default 944 Cup@ Indianapolis Motor Speedway

The 944 Cup is being given the opportunity to race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Not many drivers have been given this opportunity as the track is rarely open to many series, pro or amateur.

The event would be in 2011 and of course would be held during Indy 500 month ...... May. The track configuration would be the F1 circuit.

We're trying to get a sense of the level of interest in racing at IMS among 944 racers. This would be a SCCA Pro event.

If you have any interest, please take a moment of your time and complete the Poll : http://forum.44cup.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=408

Thanks.

I'd be in...this would truly motivate me to run a number of 944 Cup events in 2011 in addition to PCA (F).

I've always wondered why there is no club race there, and assumed it was because of a sky-high rental cost. Sounds like this would be a fun event.

Don't know what I would need to do to the car to pass tech, but I'd be down for a chance to run Indy.

To be able to race at this event you will need to have a SCCA club race log book for your 944. Many of the Cup drivers/cars have been going thru this process this year as the same requirements are in place to run Cup Nationals this year at VIR in September with SCCA Pro. The Indy race would also be with SCCA Pro.

What do you need to get a SCCA log book? If you already have a NASA log book, you will be able to get thru SCCA tech just by adding a second door bar to your passengerside cage. Most cars with a PCA log book will also be able to pass muster if you are have a full cage with 2 door bars on each side of your cage. You will also need to have a Hans device or similar H&N device.

You gotta be kidding me. I sold my 944 race car last year, which I had had since 1989. For a chance like that, I'll buy another.

Why only 944's.?
What about us guys running with no water and the motor in the back?
I've always wished they'd hold a Rennsport Reunion at IMS.Even mentioned this to the Redmans years ago,but didn't get a tingle.Oh well.
