In my brakes I only had the pin and the large spring clip. The retainer pin wasn't there ????

Make sure that assembly turns free after the pad install is done - I've ahd 2 customers reuse the anti-noise shim dealies (no! do not install!) and it bound up the rotor and RUINED the caliper, rotor, and pads.

Get another retainer clip - though unlikely, you DO NOT want the pin sliding out and let the large spring clip pop out while driving!

TraqJunk now has a Brake Pad Spreader which can help in situations like this. $39.95

Also our Brake Tool is great for compressing the spring which holds the retaining pin in place. Saves many minutes and much aggravation. $49.95

Check them out at http://TraqJunk.com

Perhaps this $37 brake pad tool will work the next time.

Works fine on my 1987 911 as well as other makes.

Buy here: http://www.toolss.com/wbstore/main.a...K-BRK-J&CTMP=1

All you need is a screwdriver, use it as a lever to pry the pad away from the rotor, this will also reset your piston. The brake pad should just slide in. This is pretty basic stuff. Either go get the neighborhood kid who is the grease monkey or take it to a shop. I am saying this because it sounds like you are out of your depth and the brakes are the last place you want to screw up because of over looking something basic.
