Follow-up:

I really think that the 986 box is inferior to the regular ol' Coolshirt box.
I could go back to one, or, having made the investment, try and make the 986 box better.
It flows fine but non-scientific testing seems to indicate that ice (block) doesn't seem to last as long.

What about additional insulation around the box- and if so- what kind?

FR shirt is out. I have one and love it. MUCH better than the cool shirt. I drove a 3 hour enduro flag to flag at buttonwillow in June...102 deg at the green flag (6:15 pm). Cool shirt just does not give you the same coverage.

Now a buddy of mine in the Ferrari Challenge just got his 458 Challenge are and they put in a new helmet "air conditioner" system for use with his Arai GP-5 helmet. He says it is amazing and thinks it works better than using a cool shirt. I am going to look into this system.

Fooshe,

I'm going to try the 986 shirt. Are you using the shirt with a cool shirt box, or did you purchase the whole 986 system (box, shirt, etc.)? David's last post in this thread indicated that he was leaning towards the cool shirt ice box w/the 986 shirt.

Thx.

Worth it vs. standard Coolshirt IYHO?
i run the 986 shirts with the coolsuit box. i tried the 986 box a year ago, i found it woefully inferior to the coolshirt tub. sorry, it was.
did not cool nearly as well, though they claim it gets longer cooling. for me doing 30 to 50 minute sprintss, the coolshirt was plenty.
you have to get universal connectors to connect the two. c oolsuit's are proprietary while 986 shirt is the universal style. for $5.00 connecto, change connector on the coolshirt hose coming from the tub, and you're golden.

He beat me to it. I use the cool shirt box with univ. connectors, too. MUCH better in my humble opinion.

Any recent follow ups???
I'm putting a cool system in my car this winter. Having a boxster, the 986 seems like a logical choice!
I get very overheated and don't want it to be an excuse for not wearing my suit any more.

I use the 986 Pro-shirt connect to a FAST cooler and helmet blower. I am very happy with the system, keeping me comfortable during our 30 minute races. One bag of ice will last a day at the track. I followed their sizing recommendations. The shirt fits tightly, but is very comfortable and doesn't lose its fit with use. I need help taking mine off after the races. I had issues where I was compressing the rear bladder and thus obstructing the flow. This was fixed by running the cooler for a few seconds in the paddock to fill the bladder before I tightened my belts.

I started using the complete 986 system this season. It is the best system hands down. The box will keep the ice for an amazing time. Mine is in the spare tire well of a 944, under that giant magnyfing
glass of a rear window. It must have been 4 hrs later when we were loading up that I emptied the cooler. There was enough ice to run another 30 min sprint race. I could not believe it.

I just picked up an unused a Cool Shirt system without a shirt. So I am looking for a shirt. Is anyone concerned about the material used in these compression fit shirts from 986 and Cool Shirt? Neither is fire resistant. I have a 3 layer Sparco suit so maybe I shouldn't be too concerned. Or should I?
