Do we have to work?
Or can we just pay our money and drive like normal customers?

Not that I don't like working, mind you - I do it just about every time I'm at an event. There's just something about paying full price and _then_ working that gets me. I dunno, I'm funny about that.

Did you find yourself on the NNJR "black list" for missing your work assignment?

not to start a flame war here, but, putting 4 hours on a work assignment for a 3 day event, isn't going to kill anyone.
besides, you might just make a new friend or two.
i'm not agreeing or dis-agreeing with nnjr's policy, that has been hashed over years ago.
the post was just an invitation, with reference for questions, whatever they might be, to the track chair.
come, don't come, it is up to you.
i wish i were able to go this year as ohio is right on top of my list.
and yes, if asked, i would man a work station no matter which group i was with.

4 hours would be extreme. I worked staging my last event and I spent all of 40 minutes (and sold a set of rotors to a club member I never met before). Besides, how else does this stuff get done?? We all belong to Clubs of some shape or form and these clubs are only as good as the volunteers make it, right?

It's not the "working" or the need for the work that I question - I work almost every event I attend, and quite a few of them I'm not even driving.
It's the paying full boat and _then_ working that I question. And yes, many regions know how to do this without requiring their paying customers to work. No need to start a flame war, it was just an off-hand remark.

I think this is a fundemental difference between what the instructors within Zone 4 and the east coast regions have experienced. The zone 4 regions around Mid-Ohio typically will charge the instructors a minimal fee if anything. In return we work. Either instructing or other duties.
This make the concept of paying full boat and working rather hard to accept.

Its a cultural difference. Our Region was one of the last hold outs in Not charging instructors to participate. So on a typical weekend we charge 50.00 to instruct and you get one student most of the time, and that is about it. we do get some help from some of the club regulars to maybe work black flage and Pit out. Not to say who is right and wrong the East cost regions mostly charge higher rates to instruct, but give some discount off the student rate. I have never ran with NNJR but I should as I like to do as many different regions as I can to learn and pick up things I can use at home. From a PCA customer service standpoint, my only concern is that I would want the instructors main focus and goal is to provide that student with the best experience. As long as he or she has the time to dedicate to the student then its all good. We are trying to give instructors one student when we can, so that this is there track buddy for the weekend. The customer is KING.

maybe i should have been more clear to the instructors out there.
if you look at our fees schedule, you'll see that instructors get a discount, non-instructed groups pay " full boat" and students make up the slack for the instructors.
as far as i know, instructors do not get work assignments, but are expected to provide instruction for at least two days, if not more.
generally, we have no sign-offs the first day, and if your student is signed off at the end of the second day, it would be highly recommended that the instructor take a ride with the student at least for the first run on the third day.
the students i am reffering to would be the green/yellow run groups.
instructed blue/white students, imho, it would be up to the opinion of the instructor.
also, i should note, that you WILL NOT miss any runs even during your work assignments, if you have one.
i don't think i can make things any clearer than that.
not starting a flame war, but we all know that things are a little tough out there right now, and i am doing my part to see that the event sells out-hopefully.
try us out for size-----i think that you guys will be pleasantly surprised.
be well all, and if you see a troop the memorial day weekend, that him or her for defending the liberties that we all enjoy today.
