Fine Sausage Racing's 944
Thought I'd share some pictures of team Fine Sausage Racing's Chumpcar 944. We bought it for $500, sold the set of Fuchs wheels that came with it for $760. Since wheels are 'out of the budget' this is all money we can spend fixing up the car. Today we finally figured out the last few issues and got our car running!
We plan to race at Hallett in August, they are running a true 24 hour race. Chumpcar (www.chumpcar.com) is very much like the 24 hours of lemons only no penalties that involve destroying your car.

A friend and I (both 944 spec) were out at lunch one day and walked by a perfect 951 without a second thought, only to stop dead in out tracks at a really clean 85 NA next to it, with a thrashed interior..both looked at each other and blurted out "spec car!..."
that's a fine lemons car. After your done with it I'd take it spec racing!....

I'm not sure if this is a race car build or a resurrection!!
Fun to watch regardless

be sure to fix the oiling system......at the thunderhill lemons race last year a 944 ejected a piston out the side of the block and it hit the retaining wall!!! Then later than race we blew the 928 engine for similar reasons

Gutting!
Drove it to work a few times just to be sure everything is working in the drive train(an hour commute each way). Handed the car off last week to the other team members who are doing the interior work. Stopped by to drop off the cage and took a look at gutting in progress!
Anyone in need of interior parts, pm me an offer. Even a few bucks for any part helps us keep the car in the budget. Window motors worked but slowly. Driver's seat is decent. Passenger's seat all cut up.

I did what I could for oiling given the budget limit. Good oil, an oil temp gauge, pan baffle, reinforced pickup tube and fresh rod bearings.
I'm thinking about the spec 1 route but probably not with this car.

Looking good. I built and race an E30 325i in the Chumpcar race this past weekend at Brainerd. It was a ton of fun. We grenaded the engine during the second 7-hour race, but had an enjoyable weekend nonetheless.
We're definitely planning on running more Chumpcar events in the future.
Good luck with the build and keep posting progress pictures.

i forgot to mention that at this past weekend's chump car race the lone 944 team was adding 2 quarts of oil at every pit stop. Lets hope that your car isn't that oil thirsty

Put about 200 street miles on our car without adding any oil, hope that keeps up.
Now that my cohorts are working on the gutting the race car, I am getting ready to swap the motor to get the 'parts car' running. I plan to trailer it to the race. With a running parts car we can break just about anything once and still have a shot at fixing it :O

The entry deadline for the August Chumpcar race at Hallett has passed but I am sure they would allow late entries. If you are considering it then sign up!
Cleanup continues on the racer's interior to get it under 2500lb. Good motor with fresh rod bearings went in the 'parts car' over the holiday.
