Well, one reason is, we start young.

Meet 8 years old Kalle Rovanpera, son of Finnish WRC driver, Harri Rovanpera.

Wow... with skills like that at 8, when did he really start driving? 8 months?

What's the gauge plastered to the center dash? Tach? Speedo? I can't see it in the video.

At 1:08 - that kid is so in trouble by his Dad! (lol) But don't normal Finns dress up and drive rally cars to get to town and buy groceries? I've read about the general population are just better drivers overall b/c of the roads and weather they constantly have to deal with.

I do wonder if he does he have a Playstation at home with Gran Turismo?

Actually Kimi did quite well on last WRC event. He finisihed 5th. I suppose Alonso cannot do that.
Most finnish race drivers can do it both track and gravel.
Kalle Rovanpera's car is a Toyota Starlet from 70's/'80's and is very popular in the Finnish entry level rally class F amoung old europen Ford Escorts.

A 1980 Toyota Starlet was my first car.
~ 50 mpg and it was easy to parallel park...just pick up the rear end and move it into a parking space.
Of course, it wasn't so good in an accident.
