off

If you need the car to save your *** then you need to work on your driving/you don't belong on a track. (not saying this is you, just in general)

If it's the former, fix your driving. If its the latter, and you want to drive more aggressively, THEN turn it off.

My experience with my 997S was that the only time PSM kicked in, I was happy that it was there. A track day with a street car is always better when you can drive the car home in the same condition it was in when you left for the track.
^^^^^^ To me this is sage advise.

The Boxster speaks a different dialect from the 911.

I wonder how many people who are immediately saying turn it off actually have experience with the current generation of PSM. I'm no Shumi, but I'm not a rolling chicane on the track. My comments come from experience with pushing both my 997S and also a Cayman or two fairly hard. As I mentioned, my experience has been that this current generation will give you a fair amount of latitude. I would never recommend turning it off in a street car before first experiencing and analyzing its intervention.

Paolo, having riddden with you, you could turn PSM OFF. For someone with less experience, I'd say "on" but you will be fine without it. If you decide to put R compounds on the, PSM will be a nuisance. Perhaps run a session with PSM on and if you feel it cutting power, diagonal braking etc turn it off. On my home track, TC kicks on uselessly on my RS even on street tires. Same thing on the C4S PDK.

Best,

GO also sounds like NO

Good advice Bob. With street tires just leave it on. With R-compound it depends on how you drive. PSM is a safety margin, if you don't want that then turn it off. It's DE anyway, back when I had AC it would usually be on FULL BLAST.

As they say you can't win your DE.....though many people try.

I believe that was my first time with the 911 at Tremblant........

Lets just call it:

On.

Having played with it in my 996 (on street tires), it's a great learning experience to drive so it doesn't come on. You'll be smoother and drive a better line.

10 years ago, we would have been having the conversation about ABS brakes - and you'd have half the people saying, "Unplug it! Flat spotting tires builds character!"

Now, who seriously thinks ABS is a hindrance? PSM isn't a hindrance - it just gets in the way of some people's machismo.

Off, especially if you're on R Comps it's easy to drive past the limits of PSM/Electronic brake distro.

BTW -- ABS, the stock 996 ABS is a huge hindrance to me right now. I posted about it here on Rennlist recently.

With stock equipment these electronics work great. If you start upgrading then you start to get out of their programmed realm.
