Default PSM......On or Off?.......

Attending and advanced DE at LRP on April 16th with the Cayman S (stock everything except brake pads).

Would it be a more enjoyable track day with or without the PSM on?

It would be more enjoyable for us if you turned it off, then we got to read about it.

Paolo, try a search on PSM in the title and you'll probably find a few dozen threads with this same question. In general, if you are driving the car properly, it will not interfere whatsoever. Maybe it will flash briefly on the crest of the uphill as the rear-end comes loose. In the past 3 years since I've driven my Porsches at LRP, WGI, and Monticello, PSM on or off hasn't made any difference in lap times, enjoyment at the track, etc.

If all else fails, try 2 sessions with it on, 2 off and then you'll know for sure.

As long as you don't over drive the car, the PSM will not engage. I think the only time I had a real PSM moment was in my old 997 C4S on my first track day where it truly stopped a spin in progress.

The instructors at PSDS can do some pretty impressive hot laps without any PSM intervention. Since the 997, I think PSM has been very unobtrusive.

Of course people will debate the sh*t out of this!

The fact that you need to ask the question means my answer is ON.

In a '7 generation P-car that is a daily driver that you're taking to the track instead of your race car, I would leave it on at first and see if you get much intervention from the system. If you find it kicking in, I would look at your driving and ask yourself if it was fixing mistakes you were making that you could correct, or if it was keeping you from driving as hard as you want to. If it's the former, fix your driving. If its the latter, and you want to drive more aggressively, THEN turn it off.

My experience with my 997S was that the only time PSM kicked in, I was happy that it was there. A track day with a street car is always better when you can drive the car home in the same condition it was in when you left for the track.

Do you have the Sport Chrono option?

I always run with PSM on, and as stated above if you are driving the car correctly it should not interfere.
It is a nice safety net when things start to go wrong.

Don't turn it off, unplug it!!!! You can definitely drive the car hard enough to have it interfere. You can also to have more corner entry and be smoother with it on, but I would unplug it. Are you running street tires???
