Question F1 Coming to NYC in 2012?

Since Bloomberg told Bernie no to F1 in Times Square, the F1 boss is now looking to hold the race across the river. Is the Meadowlands parking lot big enough? Bernie may have to dish it out with the NNJR Autocross chair for dates

Ecclestone hopes to welcome F1 in New York in 2012
25 March 2010

Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has said he is trying to bring the sport back to the United States. The Briton hopes to see the United States Grand Prix return as early as 2012. F1 enjoyed its last race in the US back in 2007 at Indianapolis.

"I'm trying to get F1 to the US in 2012, opposite Manhattan in New Jersey with skyscrapers in the background," Ecclestone was quoted by Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport. "The track would be just fifteen minutes from the city centre of New York. It would be something great."

I hope it happens even though I don't particularly care for street circuits.

Sad that we have not had an F1 race in the US since 2007.

Its possible - I remember the Meadowlands Grand Prix.
According to Wikipedia:
Meadowlands Grand Prix was held from '84 to '91. First year was on a parking lot course; then on the internal road network around the arena and stadium.

Central Park would be a good venue.

What are they going to call it "The Armpit of America Gran Prix"? I lived in Manhattan for 1 1/2 years and that's what I thought it was.

If it succeeds, there definitely needs to be a tight turn with a bump in it named the Jimmy Hoffa Hairpin.

I just laid out a 3.5 mile track around the exterior of the stadium and arena parking lot. What's the oval that's next to the stadium?

Have they demolished the old stadium yet? It's oval and right next, at an angle, to the new stadium.

Are there enough fancy hotels near the Meadowlands to keep Bernie happy?
Or would he just take his helicopter into Manhattan for some hookahs and blow.

And how badly can Tilke screw up a parking lot circuit.
Someone send some money to Tilke so he can buy a french curve arc sketching tool.

How many cones does it take to layout an FIA approved F1 circuit ?
I think all the Northeast PCA regions may have to chip in to help.

A figure-8 course would be awesome.
That would kill the snore factor.

That or throwing in a good smattering of NYTaxis onto the course.

You guys are headed in the right direction with this...

What about a shortcut through the stadium? Bernie's concept!

isn't there a NYC race track on a Playstation 3 game?

A better idea, since no refueling would be a race from NYC to Philly anyway they can get there the fastest!
