LOL...I concur, but if the vinyl gets all nasty to the point where the sofa looks bad with it on, it sort of defeats the purpose...

In all seriousness, I wouldn't be using it if I thought it had any negative impact. I wipe the gunk off with the Adam's and throw some quick detailer on after.

Did you try one of those rubber "eraser" wheels? They basically rub the glue off mechanically. It really is remarkable how much better they work than solvents and rags. With a full panel of goo, you might need a lot of these wheels.

The body is all fiberglass/carbon fiber. I would expect OEM paint to be a lot better in term of both adhesion and resistance to chips. This paint may have been cheap single stage for all I know. I was still surprised at all of the adhesive left behind though.

I've used thouse wheels before and they can be good. In this case though there was just too much to remove, it would have taken days.

The 3M General Adhesive Remover was not strong enough, but the other day I saw some 3M Wood Grain Trim Remover at NAPA. I guess you use it to remove the fake wood grain on old Dodge Caravans and wagons. I'll try that stuff if I ever have to do this again.

I'll probably do a clear bra after paint this time anyway. We resprayed my Dad's 911 about a year ago (black paint), after a season of racing it looks lke it went through hell.

My Venture on the Cayman takes some TLC when I want to rub off the rubber streaks. Kind of as Mooty says. I use some plexi-cleaner that venture recommends. It is also extremely sensitive to strong bird sh*t. Near Puget Sound and this has left a permanent mark even when it sat for less than 2 hrs on the car.

2 year replacement was also what I was thinking but it is better than chips or scrapes from having to rub on paint.

about removal: i had venture on for about 10 month, then due to some damage i did to it, i decided to repalce the venture on bumper. it covered over the factory RS decal. premier was able to pull the venture off the car with NO residual and the factory decal stayed on the car like it was delivered on day one. i dont know if this was typical.

i have sold some of my cars to friends who have since removed venture and another 3M to put on new films. the cars all had OEM paint and no paint came off and no residual on paint.

about bird poop: if you see it, stop the car, wipe it off IMMEDIATELY, both my venture and 3m turned yellow after the poop was on it for a few hours as i drove home from track (less than 3 hours). car was white, so the yellow stain was pronounced.

Paint only comes off w/ the film when it is aftermarket paint. In general with aftermarket paint, the factor is also dependent on the quality of the paint job. Mooty's experience means a lot when he uses paint protection film (aka clear bra) to its full extent - Bravo!!!

Thanks much guys. I decided to go with Venture on the front pieces: Nose, bit of hood, front of fenders. I'm going 3M for the shark fins in front of the back wheels and the wheel well pieces, plus something thicker (not Venture or 3M...I forget what) for the headlights, foglights and turn signals.

dude, you wrap fog light and turn signals? i swap mine with other RS whenever i goto the track, give them the ugly stuff off my car and take their new lens. easy to do

back to seriousness. what do you mean by the "sharkfin"? if you are talking about the lower sill that's in black plastic, dont bother. no matter how thick you cover it with, if you are remotely fast, that piece will get sand blasted. furthermore, if you are talking about the small soft rubbery piece that's perpendicular to the sill plate, forget it. i have lost at least 6 of those and stopped replacing them. if your car sits low and you like to drive over exit curbs or you have turns with depression at the apex, you will lose that rubber piece.

with respect to wheelwell, keep eye on it. one of my had TWO layers of 3m and the other had 3 layers of venture, they are ALL chewed through and through if you run hoosiers. you wouldn't believe the sh*t those R6 kicks up. cover the wheelwell well and replace them when you see damage, which can be every 6 months.
