Like others - closed and cracked for some ventilatio and to avoid fogging. I'm usually wearing sunglasses too, but considering a smoke visor (thoughts on that?).

I have a heavy tint/smoked one on mine. I tend to find my eyes are a bit more sensitive to bright lights than most. I've used mine on the Salt Flats and at 8pm in a pouring rain storm and never thought it was an issue. I carry a clear one with me, but I've never used it.

I need to find some clear polarized lenses that I can wear under a tinted visor. Colored visors are definitely a good thing...had to run them in open wheel cars. Having a yellow visor is very helpful in rain/overcast conditions.

I alternate between open and closed depending on the weather, how I feel, or how much I am concentrating. When I am just playing around a DEs and instructing I usually keep it open, but I notice in races when I am really pushing I keep it closed.
I honestly can't believe open-faced ones are allowed in cars any more. in my opinion they are dangerous and the people who get "claustrophobic" in them need to grow a pair. it's not that bad, get over it. It's your safety and nothing should be compromised.

Current issue of Grassroots motorsports has a chilling first person account of a car fire at 25 hour Thunderhill. Car was a brand new professionally prepped MX5 cup car, driver hit the extinguisher when he realized fire, then rolled toward a corner station to get out. Before he'd stopped, the cell exploded. His account of getting out of the car should be required reading. It's not an exaggeration to speculate that without a face shield he might not have made it out; the margin was that tight.
