Default I need a trailer!

Hey Everyone,

Just figured out that my new Spec Boxster won't fit on my old Trailex trailer. Lime Rock is next month, so I need a trailer fast. If anyone knows of a lightweight open trailer, let me know. I pull with an Audi Q7 3.6, so it needs to be light.

Also, if anyone needs a small Trailex set up for a 911, I now have one for sale.

Thanks,

Andy

Hey Andy that is strange that the Boxster would not fit. My 996 fits mine just fine, and the Boxster is more or less the same size. Is your 911 older and, therefore, that much smaller than the Spec Box?

We put a Caymans on a 7541 Trailex all the time. We moved the axles back one setting which required a short length of brake line (bought off the shelf at Napa with flares and such already done) and forced us to flush the brakes (a good thing to do). It was easy to do. So if that's your problem, move the axles.

I believe, and Andy can correct me, the issue is the width of the trailer?

If Your truck will pull an open trailex it will pull an enclosed. Then You have a portable garage, makes life easier, perhaps broaden Your search to include an enclosed also?

Boxster's are an inch wider in the rear than a early 996 and have a longer wheelbase....

If you have the 7541 or larger the Boxster will fit. I've had a 996 GT3 on it.

I had a 92 Cup that just barely fit on the trailer. The Trailex is old (early 90s'). The width of the trailer is 70.5". The width of the Boxster is about 71". Even if the measurement I got from my mechanic for the Boxster is off by an inch or so, it's going to be too tight.

Official Boxster width is 70.1 for the 97-99 generation, by contrast the early 996 C2/C4 is 69.5 (2002+ was 69.7 and turbo/c4s was 72)

I actually never realized this before the but the 986 Boxster is longer in wheelbase than the 996. Just the wheelbase is longer not the length of the body.
Boxster: 95.1
996: 92.6
-That is substantial.

Not a bad thought Glen. In fact, the Boxster has no windows, so I was going to have to deal with that problem anyway. My concern would be the towing capacity. For the Audi Q7 it is 5500 lbs. The car is around 2,500lbs, plus let's say, 500lbs of stuff. So if my math is correct the trailer would need to weigh less than 2,500. Can I find an enclosed trailer under 2,500lbs?
