I could be wrong, but a towing capacity of 5500# would require a trailer with a max 5500# GVW rating, and no more. I don't think it matters if your trailer+car+tires and stuff weigh in at 3500#. When you get pulled over for an inspection the officer will go by the GVW, not the actual weight.

So... I ended up ordering a 18' + 2' wedge ATC enclosed aluminum trailer. By most opinions it should work fine with the Audi Q7. If not, I get to buy that pickup truck I have always wanted.
