Too funny. That's the typical mentality of the LeMons organizers and their disciples - everything bad that happens at their events is the fault of Spec Miata, SCCA, and NASA drivers. The fact that they let people race without ever turning a single lap on a racetrack is never a problem.

This winter I seriously considered building a LeMons car, and this attitude is the #1 reason I didn't. I bought a Spec Miata instead, and will race it with SCCA and NASA.

If they keep chasing away potential customers like me, they won't have any more "real" racers to blame for their crashfests.

Wow, dude, lighten up. It's LeMons, not LeMans.

I honestly thing it would be so cool to do Lemons. The issue of course is that even if you follow the rules and put all that effort into a car, because of some popular sentiment, your car could be destroyed.

I simply do not like that. No **** right? But I have not been on the good end of "popular sentiment" before, and I do not like the idea of trusting anything to such a socio-political entity.

I could make a lemons car with pieces I already have in boxes in the garage, essentially.

Speaking of Le Mans.... I ran into 83 year old Dick Gulfstrand today under a Corvette of course. He told me he was driving LeMans this year again in a Corvette. Did I mention he's bleeping 83 years old?.... http://www.guldstrand.com/mrcorvette.asp

I'm a lot more relaxed than I'm probably able to convey here. I'm also speaking from my experience driving in a Lemons race. We had a blast and did really well (3rd out of 100+ cars). From that experience I understand that Lemons is focused on having fun rather than just racing. And fun it is. Can't argue with the success either.

I had such a good time racing Lemons that I was going to build a car for it. But after hearing & reading the sentiment expressed in that cartoon time after time, I got turned off. As funny as that cartoon is (and it is funny) it points out the prevailing opinion amongst many (most?) Lemons racers - that Spec Miata, SCCA, and NASA racers are a bunch of whiners that can't drive any better than they can. Kinda reminds me of political newspaper cartoons - clever & funny, but pushing an agenda.

I'm with DP - amusing, but also rather pointed...

Lemons sounds like fun. To watch. I would never bother running, even driving, in such a series; I take my racing too seriously. I enjoy succeeding, not making an *** outta myself. Well, at least, not while racing; over beers later, sure!

Several of my co-workers do Lemons, though, including the Chia Neon...

I agree completly. When I race or do most things for that matter I go all out. I take them seriously. The LeMons stuff is a joke. It is not real racing. I have not issues with racing cheap cars. Hey I race a 944 after all. Even so I want to do well based on skill, talent with some good luck thrown in. Arbitraty rules and penaties are not my thing. Frankly I would probably not even last 20 minuts on a track where they guys aroud me seem clueless when it comes to proper racing. I get the impression LeMons being no talent free for all. Run too fast becuse you built or can drive well and get penalized. I just figure for all the effort(time and money) it takes on my part I have better areas to direct it then LeMons "racing".
