Thanks for the bump Jason.
Two months later, and Katy is still alive, albeit in the ICU. Al is holding up as well as one could expect, and holds a constant vigil over the situation. And finds the time to write in his blog every day.
The fundraising efforts for the Hayes family has grown over the months, as has the family's needs. If anyone would like to make a contribution, they can do so at the following web page. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for the donation link.

You guys should really read Al's latest post. Katy is up in a wheelchair, and able to talk for the first time in a couple of months.

Today's Houston Chronicle featured a front page article on the Hayes family. I can't find the story on chron.com, but maybe it will appear online later in the day.
Here are a couple of recent pictures from Al's blog. Katy is on the mend, thanks in part to all the contributions from RL. It's not too late to contribute. This family is going to need help for quite some time.

For those of you who have been following this, or anyone new to the story, today's news is nothing short of amazing. Katy is out of the hospital, and home in Houston.

When this started, doctors were giving her a 5% chance of surviving.
The Hayes family will be needing financial aid for quite some time. The medical bills have to be staggering, Katy can no longer work, and I don't know when Al will be able to return to his work. There are quite a few local fundraising efforts going on. In addition, you can contribute through the following link:

However, many of the comments about the article on the Chron website are anything but inspiring. I'm getting sick to my stomach reading some of the comments. I can't believe that these are actual human beings writing this stuff...
