As has been well documented since 2007, Santander has backed and followed Alonso where ever he has driven including McLaren and now Ferrari. In addition to his sponsorship, Santander has been the title sponsors for certain F1 race weekends. It is also known that it was Santander, not Ferrari, that paid off the final year of Kimi's contract to bring Alonso to the Scuderia.

A bit off topic, but relevant to the state of the racing economy, is that the Euro has fallen out of bed with debt laden economies in Greece, Portugal and Spain on the verge of bankruptcies. Caught up in the "irrational exuberance" of yesteryear is Sandander....
