Default Cosworth engines done...finally

and we're discussing the fact that USF1 is cutting it close for testing?

Cosworth engines ready for action
Tuesday 12th January 2010

The first batch of Cosworth engines are ready to be shipped to their respective F1 teams ahead of the start of testing.

With pre-season testing getting underway in just over two weeks, F1's four new teams; Campos Meta, Lotus, USF1 and Virgin Racing; as well as Williams are all awaiting the arrival of the new engines.

The teams, though, won't have to wait much longer as Cosworth have announced that the engines are ready for delivery.

"The first batch of CA2010 units is boxed and ready for our customers to press ahead with installation, fire-up and initial testing," said Mark Gallagher, Cosworth's general manager.

"We're looking forward to seeing them all on track next month since there is still a lot of work to do before the season starts.

"After the very busy summer and autumn months when we were putting our program together it has been very rewarding to see the first engines ready for action thanks to the hard work of everyone here at Cosworth and our suppliers."

Everyone is cutting it close. We've got 19 days until the first test and once these new engines get fitted, there may have to be redesigned engine bays/body work/cooling ducts ect. ect.

i'm wondering if "Straight line" test are allowed before Feb. 1st? They were allowed during the season.

In about a couple weeks is when you really start hating the testing ban as we would have been able to see the new drivers and pairings at test days all over. However this testing ban may have made it possible for USF1 to afford to race.

And the computer is only as good as the software and the data going into it.

NOTHING beats, or will replace, real-world testing.

Best case, it validates your simulation. Worst case, you royally screwed up the model.
