Seems like VC leaks can be solved. You are replacing the nuts and washiers when you did this-correct? The nut should be the nylock variety and aluminum crush washers. If hardware is re-used, it will leak. Over-torqueing can be an issue too.

Yes, I replaced the washers and nylocs when I put in the billet VCs. Then with the second o-ring replacement, I reused the washers (I figured with such a low torque spec, they couldn't possibly be "crushed" crush washers), but did use new nylocs. I also paid extra attention to not overtorque. I am crossing fingers, but I also will be looking at the crankcase breather to make sure I am not pressurizing the crankcase. Any other suggestions while I am poking around would be very much appreciated!

Edward, the gaskets are fickle and move during tightening of bolts.
The Bolts: did you install all new bolts? This can be a problem because those bolts are designed to stretch when installed and may not go back as snuggly as the first install.

This reminds me of a "case" I watched at SP a few years ago. A 914- 6 was having a hard time keeping the VCs from leaking on the headers. Nice and dry idling in the paddock but not so good on track. Spent day one dithering around cranking on the VC nuts and the like. Early day 2 he hosed the track after the case pressure got high enough. His cost his group almost an entire run.
There is likely a reason you are having a hard time sealing the motor. Case pressure from high blowby or a blocked breather system should be looked into.

Besides the VCs, the other two most common leak spots are the "breather plate" and the oil pressure switch, both on the top/front of the engine. That oil can and will run down over the sides and onto the exhaust or the ground. Like I said in private, the old powder trick is a really good way of finding where it is coming from, or not coming from.

It was not long ago that I had the engine out for a clutch replacement so all hard-to-get areas were addressed, like the oil pressure switch, etc. Also the oil scavenge plate is bone dry. Cam chain covers dry. Engine, cylynder, head mating areas look dry. All looks dry except right at the VCs, both sides, lower edge only, but I will try to figure out what I can use/spray to help me detect a leak elsewhere, if any (thanks again, John!) ...anyone have a thought of a "powdery" spray that will stick? I will follow up on the crankcase breather immediately, though, as that is something that just had not occured to me. You guys are great ...thanks a bunch!!
