Hi Mike,

This is the one HSR event that I don't partake on. There are no Klub Sport points so I save the "wife points" to go to Daytona and then Sebring.

I hear that it is a great event though.

Are you coming to Daytona and/or Sebring?

Cheers! Juan

We have done a huge amount of improvements to the track and viewing area for this race and up coming races.

There is also going to be a in field car show during the Sat races. The 2011 Porsche parade is going to be Hutchinson Island and at this track. Also the 2011 Ferrari event!

Would love to see all of you at this event or one of the events we have planned here in the future!

You know HSR is running there this weekend? It will be a low turn out event so I thought it would be a good time to pop my cherry. The down side is I have never seen or driven the track but, what the heck, it will still be a good time. If I like the place I will go back in Oct.

Too bad you guys are not going to be there.

I take my current street ride there every year and give rides to spectators and the press before things begin. It is a first class event.

Default Cayman Interseries at HSR Savannah

THE CAYMAN INTERSERIES – News and Notes, June 14, 2010

Lee Davis Takes First Win in Savannah Enduro with Ryan Eversley; Record Four Different Winners in As Many Races in Savannah; JC France Wins in Impressive Debut; Jim Bacus and David Heinemeier-Hansson Also Victorious In Georgia

SAVANNAH, Ga. (June 14, 2010) – Hot and humid conditions with daily temperatures cresting 100 degrees Fahrenheit provided the competitive setting for even hotter Cayman Interseries racing action on the Savannah Harbour Race Course on Hutchinson Island during this past weekend’s HSR Savannah Historic Races where the third and final day of racing on the 1.965-mile road course on Sunday, June 13, brought a record setting weekend to a fantastic finish.

After first making it to victory lane with a third-place showing in Saturday’s opening sprint race, Georgia-based driver Lee Davis rolled straight to his first Cayman Interseries victory with a win in Sunday morning’s featured 90-minute enduro. Co-driving his No. 333 Luna C Clothing Cayman S that carries the livery of the red and black Advan Porsche 962s, Davis and coach and co-driver Ryan Eversley prevailed in a race-long battle with the team of JC France and Jack Baldwin.

“I got a really good start and was able to take the lead on the first lap,” Davis said. “Then Jack Baldwin got by me and we kind of played around for the first 25, 30 minutes or so until a caution and I brought it into the pits in first. Then we had a great pit strategy, our crew chief Adam Twinley is fantastic, and I turned it over to Ryan, and he did his thing. He is just awesome. This our first Cayman win for Luna C Clothing and the 986 driver cooling shirt worked great.”

The race came down to a battle in the final 20 minutes between Eversley and France, who took over his popular blue and orange No. 20 Gulf/Wyer Porsche 917-themed Cayman S from starting driver Baldwin. Eversley made the winning pass with just under 10 minutes remaining.

“It went really well, Lee did an awesome job and took the lead into Turn 1, and any time you can fight with Jack Baldwin and stay with him is always an accomplishment,” Eversley said. “All weekend Lee has been just as fast as the rest of us. We stopped when that yellow came out so when everybody else was still doing slow laps behind the pace car, we did our time in the pits and I really think that is how all three of us got up here.”

In addition to finishing second one race ago in the Cayman Interseries enduro at Road America, Sunday’s victory was the third win for Davis and Eversley in less than a year’s time. They co-drove a Mustang Challenge car to victory in the nine-hour NASA finale at Road Atlanta late last year and also picked up another NASA enduro win in a BMW ST car in the rain at the same track this past March.

Eversley led the final seven circuits of what turned out to be a 51 lap enduro while France was up front just before that from laps 36 through 44.

“I thought we blew it in the pits but it worked out good for us and we had the lead for a while,” France said. “We had a great fight there at the end but I just couldn’t hold that 333 behind me. It was all over the place and every time I looked up it was like a big billboard in my mirror.”

Baldwin started France’s No. 20 Cayman, which pays tribute to the Porsche 917K Steve McQueen drove in the movie Le Mans, and then finished the race in the equally famous No. 3 purple and green Cayman S modeled after the Martini “Hippy” Porsche 917LH, which was started by Jim Bacus. The No. 3 finished fourth.

“I am like the coach, co-driver and set-up guy for the Cayman Interseries and I have driven all of these cars at one time or another,” Baldwin said. “I can’t tell you how proud I am of all these guys and how well they drive. I don’t get to go out there and race with them too often, I get a lot of the practice time, but I can’t say enough about what a nice job Lee was doing out there and when I came up on Bill Riddell. It makes me feel good that these guys have really risen to the occasion, have listened to their coaching and have applied themselves, and with HSR we have a great venue where they can drive these great cars. I am thrilled about the whole thing and real proud to be a part of it.”

Riddell drove solo and combined fast laps with some great pit strategy to earn his first podium finish since the season-opening weekend at Sebring in his green and white striped No. 80 Cayman S that pays tribute to a David Piper Racing Porsche 917K.

“It was a great race,” Riddell said. “Number one, I want to thank Porsche Napleton Racing. They helped us with our setup earlier in the week because we were off a little bit, as a matter of fact a lot, and we really struggled with the car Thursday and Friday before they said come on over and did a setup. So I really appreciate that from Ron Barnaba and Tim Olsen and their crew and my guys just busted their butts all weekend too, so I thank them. I want to thank HSR too and I am still enamored with all of this, it’s just great fun.”

FANTASTIC FOUR

The Savannah Historics marked the first time in the first full season of the Cayman Interseries that an event weekend’s four races were won by four different drivers. After taking the pole in Saturday morning qualifying, Bacus edged France for the win in that afternoon’s first sprint. France then turned the tables on Bacus and led him across the finish line in the second sprint for his first series victory in his Cayman Interseries debut weekend. After Davis and Eversley took the center podium spot in the Sunday morning enduro, David Heinemeier-Hansson drove his No. 1 Cayman S, which is themed after the famous Rothmans Porsche 956 and 962 race cars, to victory in a special Sunday bonus race that served as the weekend finale.

“I felt it was about time I got up there in the middle of the podium,” said Hansson, who also finished third in Saturday’s second sprint after crashing out while leading the first race. “I got a good start again, this time I didn’t put it in the wall and I got enough of a lead to keep it there. It was fun. I am going to try to run most everything for the rest of the season.”

Hansson led every lap of the sprint and crossed the finish line ahead of Bacus and France who also put their final touches on a pair of great weekends. Including his win, Bacus podiumed in three of four races and finished a close fourth in the enduro.

“It was a great weekend and I am very pleased with the results,” Bacus said. “We drove strong and even in the enduro we had great lap times, but we just got unlucky. I didn’t expect the full-course yellow to last so long and we should have snuck in and got our second pit stop done. That’s where we lost race, but I am not unpleased with how we did. We had good lap times, kept up a very good pace and I am happy overall and love this Savannah track.”

FINE DEBUT FOR FRANCE

France is an experienced race car driver and life-long Porsche fan who immediately felt at home in the Cayman Interseries.

“I grew up loving Porsches,” France said. “I was a fan of the No. 59 car and I was there when Hurley Haywood won his first 24 hours at Daytona in 1973 with Brumos and I have been a big fan of Porsches ever since. It’s a tribute to the series how close everybody runs together, how equal the cars are and it’s just a whole lot of fun to come out here in these famous liveries and put on a show.”

France was the only driver to visit victory lane after each of the weekend’s four races and had a first, second and third in the sprints in addition to the runner-up result in the enduro.
