Default Crash Posting - Just wondering

So we all seem to enjoy and learn from analyses of crashes and we view videos from every angle available, yet posting a still photo of a wrecked car is frowned upon. Why is that?

Is it not public information, obtained at a public event with witnesses present?
If there were fatalities and/or litigation pending, then perhaps, but otherwise I don't see the issue.

Frank, speaking only for myself, videos of offs (whether they led to a crash or not) are instructive. Photos of cars that have crashed are not, and are simply voyeuristic.

Sorry, I must totally disagree with you here. As a builder I find the crashed cars extremely helpful. Seeing how cars collapse and absorb the energy, seeing which cages distribute forces properly and which deform dangerously, seeing how a driver car move 4 feet inside a car when still properly buckled in, how things like a helmet hook radio box cool suit can become flying debris, etc ,etc.
Seeing pictures of a crashed car can be voyeuristic, and in many cases probably is, it can also be a life saving learning tool. So the next time you see a crashed car ask yourself how can I learn from this rather than holy crap that was a bad crash.

There's the difference: you're a car builder, I am not. To me, 99.999% of the crash photos I see online are voyeuristic. Hell, I see these assclowns with their cell phone cameras swarming all over cars that are damaged at DE's! That ain't for educational purposes.

JMHO.

Agreed, but my point is that everyone can learn from looking closely at the crash. Yes, I look deeper than most. I also still learn from the wrecked DE cars, it's helpfull to know what the strong points are in a chassis when installing rollcage plates. Most people don't realize how many things can become projectiles inside of thier cars in a crash, and this especially goes in DE cars.

^ + 1,000!

And, if I may add, 99.9999% of the time such pics are posted with a voyeuristic intent "hey, look what this bonehead drover did" as opposed to "here's the educational component of this wreck".

Even though the pics of someone else's wreck may be public info, posting such pics may or may not be harmful/hurtful to the person(s) involved. And even though this is the Internet, posting with a "voyeuristic" intent tells more about the character of the poster than any educational benefit derived. But WTF do I know...

As I think about this, I have never posted a picture of a wreck, although I have looked at a few online. I do really prefer to see them in person and have driven to see them purely from a learning standpoint. This isn't something I talk about when I do it.
I like racing for the racing, not the crashes.
