Default If you were to change your windshield to your racecar.....

where would you take it?

Are any of the independent glass companies any good?
Would you go to a dealer?

Thanks

Your '87? That's one of the simplest units to change out. Guessing you've got a full cage; even so any glass guy can take care of it if your own race shop won't. (If I were still working on other people's cars I'd take care of it just as a courtesy.)

Just call Safeglass or someone similar and have them come to your house and replace. Certainly not rocket science

I would buy a lexan windscreen and install it in the factory rubber gasket.

Lexan +3, Rainex the crap out of it. You should going fast enough to see when it does rain. BTW use tear-offs. Just don't leave them on longer than allocated.

What are effective methods for dealing with "fog inside the Lexan windshield" thing ? Air motion can only do so much...and Lexan won't conduct any heat from a defroster. Magic treatments / chemical voodoo ?

Shaving cream. Smear on, wipe off.

Lexan has an advantage, it is lighter. On the other hand Helmut Tester is right, fogging up on rain days is a big problem. Lexan scratches easily. If you race in the fall, afternoon eduros heading into the sun low on the horizon can be very exciting since you can't see anything.

Check to see if a Lexan windshield is legit in your class, or if it affects minimum weight depending on which race rules apply.

I used this once on a really cold day in So-Cal. Cal speedway in 2005 or something. rail all day with temps in the 50's. It hailed on pace lap with multiple drivers just parking it. I used 1 wiper and shaving cream on the inside of the glass and never had any fogging.

Shields makes a polycarbonate (Lexan is a brand of polycarbonate) windshield that has a rain X like very scratch resistant outer layer and an anti fog inner.

Dive shops sell an anti fog materal for masks that works well and lasts.

Thanks for all your inputs so far........

Would anyone dare to guess the difference in weight between a glass and lexan/polycarbonate windshield in a 911?
