'02-'05 996 Cup car for sale
After a pretty satisfying year, I decided to put my ’02-’05 996 Cup car for sale. If it sales the idea is to get a 997.
The car has been updated to every possible ’05 spec even though the tub is a ’02 tub. Engine and transmission were rebuilt over last Winter and now they have 39 hours. Maintenance has been meticulous.
The car is 100% legal and as fast as a bullet. It is my understanding (although I am glad to be corrected) that it holds the PCA track records for Brainerd International Raceway, Road America, and now Miller.
I am asking for $120,000 non negotiable. To me it has been (and it will still be) the perfect car to learn the basics and handling of a Cup car.
If it doesn’t sell, I’ll race it next year for likely 10 events.
Feel free to e-mail me if questions or interest. Pictures are very poor quality here but have better quality if an interest on the car.
Thanks a lot.

Certainly there are more than a few cups out there (includng new) for different prices. As we know provenance and maintenance are of the utmost of importance. All used cups are a sum of their parts and the testing of those parts.
But all new cups are generally created equal in Germany. Would you be getting the spare package? Would the buyer like the maintenance that is involved with the 997 versus the 996?
It is not fair to the original poster to compare just prices IMO.
No affiliation by the way

Hey Jim,
I'll stick with my red and yellow before I put flames on a Cup car...
On the other hand, I would never get upset with somebody who defends in public Fernando Alonso....
And yes, the car has vinyls on both sides. They can be removed.

I know as along as Alonso is my favorite racer and Contador is at least one of my top two favorite riders I can give you a hard time. Now about that soccer team?
Now sell your 996 so you can buy my 997! You'll look good in flames!

Hey Charlie,
Not sure and I might not sell the 997 but I've been thinking about doing some other racing. I did a couple days of practice in Baja last weekend with some friends preparing for the 1000 and it was a blast. I won't get to race this year but it's on my list. Maybe some rallying to get prepared?
I also had some friends that did the Fun Cup 24hr at Spa this summer. That's another race I'd like to try. Who knows? We'll see what happens.
I didn't see my old 996 in your track records? I think the 2:06 you chased me to at Daytona and the 2:29 at Road America should be on there somewhere.

I do agree that a 996 cup would be a great starting point for new Cup drivers.
