Default Summit Point sold to the U.S. Government

A buddy of mine just called me and told me Bill Scott Racing sold Summit Point to the Feds so they can complete a Federal Training complex.

Not sure what the impact will be on those of us that used the track for racing and D.E.

It can't be good.

If true (and from further reading below this may just be a rumor), that can't be a good sign for private use, such as DE, races, and private rentals.
Can you imagine the red tape even if it is still offered to private groups?
I have only been to Summit a couple of times, but recall that there are 2 tracks plus the fed training portion; I wonder if they could separate the tracks from the training center?
Again - seems like its only a rumor.

I don't know. I hope this is wrong info but it comes from a reliable source. FWIW, this has been a rumor for some time.

It would certainly explain the lack of capital investment in the track(s) in recent years. Thanks god for NJMP.

They already have a very big private joint venture program for 'tactical' performance driving on the campus adjacent to the track. We raced there in September and for all three days you could hear squealing tires and gunfire coming through the woods the entire time. (Alchohol! Tobacco! Firearms! who's bringing the chips?)
Might this be a rumor based on that existing project?

And the govt website does not look at all like a purchase, more like a report of contractor revenue for services which is exactly what you would expect since Bill is providing instructors, facilities and training for govt agencies... What you are seeing there are the project's revenues, not a purchase price.

Has been discussed for quite a few years and in the works for a while now. I guess the Govmint wanted to finally get some use out of all those tires they took off when new because they were not the "spec" tire, then gave to BSR for the tire walls after slashing the sidewalls.

I doubt it will be good for us.

I do not believe that the $6.2M is for purchase of the track. Having done a fair amount of training of federal agents in high speed driving and firearms there since the mid-90s, that could just be covering the annual costs. There has been a lot of training and lots of wrecked cars, etcetera, since 2001.

6.2M seems too small of an amount for the entire facility. Could also be for the new area adjacent to the track they were building.

I think the report is showing $ spent for ATF etc training. As you can see there were payments in 2007 & 2008 as well.
