Hmm. Several reasons, which include a desire to give back, a desire to run with better drivers in order to become better myself, and a desire not to pay registration fees any more.

I derive a great deal of satisfaction when my student finally "gets it" if you know what I mean. After a few hours (or more) of sheer terror, it's gratifying when his/her face lights up as we smoothly accelerate out of a nicely apexed corner.

It the right thing to do. The club environment is important in our sport, and maintaining that requires that members contribute what and where they can. The only alternative is full commercial operations, of course.

There's really not much prestige involved. If you take up instructing for the glory, then you're not going to enjoy it a whole lot. If you take it up to see your students do well, then it can be rewarding.

Give back, run with the best, more lenient "rules", lower fee, self tech, grid girl party invites...all play a part to some extent.

I was told that PCA does not certify anyone (even when they are certifiable) they just happen to have a National Instructor's Program...

Anyone else get that word?

Is the operative word 'certified' or are you just asking about becoming an instructor?
I am not a certified (meaning national) instructor, mostly because I haven't heard anything compelling about the program (no offense intended; I'd love to find out I was wrong).
I am, I am told, certifiable, however.
