Default best source for helmet / good pricing ?

Kicking myself in the tail for not looking into this last weekend at Mid O when usracegear was there with several helmets.

You guys know of any online stores offering discounts on sa2005 / sfi rated full face helmets ?

I wasn't planning on buying one untill next year but after reviewing the rule book for the upcoming Oct "24 hrs of lemons" race, I need a new helmet by end of september. Wallet says ouch, but rules is rules.

I know two stores. One is Ron Zappendorf's http://discoveryparts.com/ -- and if you mention you are a Dark Side member receive a 10% discount.

The other is Track Side Tim: http://www.tracksidetim.com/

Both have been at the track with us - both are reputable. And as you see, both have websites.

It will really depend on what brand / model of helmet you want.
IMHO fit is more important than price...

I got an email yesterday about a sale Driving Impressions has on the Zamp RZ31, 15% off with free shipping. Email says to call or order on the website, www.teamdi.com 800-275-4667. These guys have the store at Lime Rock.

Apex also has a nice selection (Linda just posted, edit)

FYI....not sure you are aware...but some of the links are getting a 'page not found error' (ie. Pyrotect, Bell). Arai is working fine. Just thought I give you a heads up.

Agreed, fit is extremely important. Bad thing is you don't know till u try em on.

Jegs carries a few of these, I may pop in and try them on. I was thinking about the G-Force: GF PRO ELIMINATOR since I've been happy with my gforce gloves and boots.

I hate to blow the bank because the new ratings will come out next year. I am only buying a helmet now because of the LeMons race in October. That said, I know the sa2005 will be good for another 5 years, so it's not a loss by any means.

If you're just going to use it for one race could you borrow one from a friend? Just wear a sock, then next year get a new one...

and that sounds so much easier on the wallet.
Would you like a few names/emails of folks I know that would be there as spectators who have always been kind enough to lend their helmets at DEs -- for you? You could use my name in the correspondence. It's ok. Maybe they can help.

US Race Gear is on line at http://www.usracegear.com/ It looks like they have a lot of helmets on sale, and they're in Cincinnati if you want to try them on in person.

For fit, you may want to try on a lot of motorcycle helmets to see what brands / sizes fit your head. Most bike shops have lots of helmet to try on. That may give you a better shot at getting the right fit first time via Internet purchase.
