Default USF1 Driver Speculation

Peter Windsor indicated they are looking at US drivers, so let the speculation begin:
Patrick Long
Ryan Hunter-Reay
Graham Rahal
Marco Andretti

Who do you think will get a seat? Who do you want to see get a seat?

Well, with all the sponsorship money following a certain female Indy driver...

...seems like only a matter of time before they announce signing **** Magee aka Ms. Duno.

Of that list the only likely one would be Ryan Hunter-Reay...and maybe Graham...

For the near term, my money's on Jonathan Summerton.

I'm hopeful that they (USF1) also implement a 'driver development' program. If such comes to life, there are a great many US drivers in junior formulae currently that would be well suited to future F1 team placement.

I would like to see Patrick Long get a shot. He did well in the Red Bull driver search several years ago. He also spent a great deal of time in Europe doing open wheel racing.
Although I would hate to lose him in the ALMS.

Oops, quote from kyfork:
For the near term, my money's on Jonathan Summerton.

I believe this is logical choice. He has greatly improved since first year A1 GP.
All others on this list, with exception of Long, wish they had a chance!!!

I'd love to see Long at least be offered job and he'd perform well

No mention of Gurney or Fogerty....too old?? Gurney would certainly draw media.
Afterall, we do have two seats to fill

Sebastien Loeb has also been in contact with USF1...of course he's French but FYI.

Not so fast...
They're not so stupid with the whole "the whole team needs to be US" idea that they'd hire two US drivers. If they do, they fail.

Only one of their driver can (and I believe will) be from US. Other needs to be with F1 experience.

I seriously doubt they'd be so hungry for publicity that they'd hire Danica either.

I also would like to see Long but I think it's too late for him, I hope I'm wrong.

The non-US seat has already been filled. I can't find the link anywhere now but they had it down to 2 drivers with former F1 experience. The other seat is going to be filled by a US rookie. no marco, he is too slow. no danica, she is too slow. no milka, she is wayyyyyyyyyyyy too slow (and not american). Hunter-Reay and Summerton are possibilities, but I think they have their eye on a few more people.

what about Alexander Rossi. Form BMW champion who is now racing Form Master in Europe. At 17 yrs old i think he would be someone to groom for a seat.

Graham would be cool to see in F1, not sure if he's ready.

His father does have some F1 experience with Jaguar.

Rossi is a great choice for the 'development driver' program I suggested. Too young and not quite enough proper experience just yet. This season he's in Formula Masters but I think he needs a season of F3, GP2 or something similar...

I'm not certain if it's been actually filled yet but the two strong names were Alexander Wurz (good choice as he's got fairly contemporary experience and is a great guy with good work ethic...) and Pedro de la Rosa (he'll likely go to Campos' team however... Spanish tie in is a plus in that situ.).

Patrick Long is very unlikely.

With his focus on ALMS - and both NASCAR's Camping World Series East and West this season [including a win at Miller Motorsports Park] - his open-wheel experience is long past its sell date.

Further to that point, he only briefly was in open wheel when he moved to Europe after karting - and that was in junior formulae only (FF and F.Renault IIRC)...

The bulk of his professional driving experience has been with Porsche starting with the Porsche Junior team (UPS sponsored car) way back in the early 2000's... Again, IIRC.

Non US seat: Jacque Villnueve

Future seat: Alexander Rossi (needs 1 to 2 seasoning years and he's good to go)

Current US Seat: No idea, but it shouldn't be Danica. I know Mario wants Marco in F1 but I believe he's seen how he's not fast enough to be in that league. I was at a kart track a couple years ago in the off-season and Ryan Hunter-Reay was running a Rotax there. He was fast, but nothing special. In fact another guy at the track was beating him pretty consistantly. I saw nothing special there either. It's going to be tough to fill that seat. Of course anyone that brings a big bag of $$ will probably get the ride.
