Default 928's dominated GT2 POC at Laguna!!!!

Two 928's dominated Saturdays POC GT2 race going 1-2 for the race ahead of a full field of GT3 cups and RSR's (997 & 996)...WOW.....they also ran 1:31 (anderson) and 1:32 (fan) during the race bettering both of their qual times!!!!

Great showing by a couple 21-22 year old cars!!!

i was there racing.
today anderson won against brian wong's 7 cup.
very nice driving.

HOWEVER, andersen and fan's 928 are not 20 year old cars. other than the shell, those cars as practically brand new and re-engineer'd.

Maybe Kibort was right. The 928s are like a fine wine and only get better with age...

wait until 2030. your GT3 will blow off the doors of the commuter jets of that time.

Mooty, how was the BSR race?
Anyone in the west renting good BSR cars? Might want to a West Coast race during the winter months...

renting: go here http://www.boxsterspec.com/portal.html and make a post. i haven't seen any for rent, but i didn't really look for it.

race: i dont have in car video. but friend shot a few pix here http://www.boxsterspec.com/spec-boxs...-23-t9604.html

i'll see if i can get another friend's hand held video for some fragments. race one, i was 7th, i gained two positions then on the last lap, i went through 3 turns side by side with another car then i lost my ***** and lifted so he gone by....

day two i was 6th on the grid. sandwiched b/n two cars as we round the slowest and narrowest turn (T2: andretti hair pin). i lost position there, became P8. then somehow (it was a blur...) i got to P5. i had a remote chance of getting to P4 (he qualified 2/100th ahead of me. but by the time i worked through the positions i lost, he was 10 car length ahead. i did narrow that down to maybe 1 car length, the i promptly shifted into 5th gear WTF *(%@#&(*&#^*(&(*#^_&...... and that was that.....

it was pretty intense having so many same cars on grid. lesson of the day...
when cars are so similar, dont fk up. if u make one tiny mistake, you will be dropped.....

the first two cars are very well driven, on avg 1 to 1.25 seconds faster than the rest.
the battle is from P3 to P8, about 1/2 second gapped those positions.

Last time I saw Mark's car, the suspension was still using the stock mounting points and control arms. His brakes are just upgraded Brembo's from the stock GTS size with matching rotors.

Exactly how are their cars "re-engineered" in your eyes?
Re-engineered to me means all new suspension geometry, sequential transmission (he's still using a mostly stock dog-leg 928 box), carbon rotors etc.... So unless Mark and Joe have done some major upgrades since I saw them last, this isn't the case.

As for the "practically brand new" comment. How many cars in the field are still driving on the OEM / all original bushings, brakes, shocks etc.....

You make it sound like they are driving tube frame silhouette cars.

John,
I will post up video later today, It was a fun weekend at the track! Lots of good people to talk with,

Hecker,
I don't think John was posting a term paper on the subject of "re-engineered" cars. more like, these cars have been up graded, and altered, and not just left in there oem state, and age

Thanks

How many if any race cars running with POC GT2 do not fall into that category?

Any 996 variant is not an "upgraded" 1978 911.
Mark and Joe's car are since the base of the suspension / brakes / chassis of the 928 changed very little from the introductory year. That's what I get out of IcemanG17's comment about a 21-22 year old car. I doubt anyone with half a brain thought he was trying to say the cars are bone stock from the showroom.

If Mark / Joe had the development money of the "big teams" I see race against them at Road America, I guarantee you the entire suspension geometry would be changed, transmission upgraded to sequential, and possibly a boosted engine with over 1,000hp, carbon ceramic brakes and even a full carbon tub which is available for the 911's (or better yet a full Fabcar chassis). That's not the case which makes their performances even more impressive.

This thread will be interesting once Kibort gets out of jail
