Back to the thread topic- Cardiogenic fitness, mental focus and visualization, light weight, reflex speed and upper-body strength is important in auto racing.

But training by doing triathlons, running, and other orthopedically-challenging activities leads to early problems as your joints degenerate when you reach middle age. Ever seen Joe Namath recently? (if any of you are young enough to remember who he was). There is a whole large body of biomedical research emerging about how brutalizing your body through high impact athletics in youth leads to big problems as you age. And my 16 yr old son does pars cours!

Also - very low body fat damages the endocrine systems of both males and females FWIW.

When I go to PCA Driver's Ed events and PCA club races I see the most obese drivers! Not so true in SCCA events IMHO.

According to Larry Herman, that body type is to sustain the high temps and not get dehydrated
