If I were buying today, I would get the slightly more expensive A-HD GVS due to it's image stabilization and the ability to hook up an external mic without an external lens without any modifications.
What about battery life? Most of these HD cameras I've looked at have one hour at best. Will yours last an enduro?

Great video from VIR too. Everyone (except that orange Mustang) seemed very aware.

It might be too wide

It tried a 12-24mm lens at 12mm. That was definitely absurd.

I used a Manfrotto light clamp with a Manfrotto ball mount. Seemed solid to me.

The deal breaker for me with that setup is that it only records up to 12.5 minutes at a time. Due to file size limitations on CF cards (4GB). A simple solution Canon could implement is to start a new file when reaching 4GB. Or switching to a modern file system instead of the dreaded FAT.
Holy crap you use a 5D Mark II. What else do you use this camera for.

How long of an enduro? I would think I could get a 90 minute race in without a recharge, but I've never tested just how long it will go.

Aiptek hooks right into lighter, unlimited life. 16GB card can do about 4 hours of HD IIRC and could do the 24 hours of LeMans on low res...

Lots of us run the Aiptek off the car's 12V supply. Search here for Frankencharger.
Its a simple cable mod that converts the normal 'charge on - no record' operation of the Aiptek 12V charger to 'charge & record' mode. No battery worries - ever!

As mentioned above by Tony, it takes a modification to make the camera record and run off AC/DC at the same time. The camera normally goes into non-record mode if the power plug is attached.

Yeah, I wouldn't actually use that for a real race. I don't mind the expensive part. If the impact is so severe as to dislodge a camera bolted onto the roll bar I'd have other things to worry about. Like if I prepared a good will or not.

It's a gimmick. With 12 minute clips and not reliable way to restart filming while in the car it's not a useful device to record sessions.

Here is an expensive solution for track videos that is quite cool:
http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921665837099 It's not cheap, though.

The results from that Sony HD POV rig are spectacular! True broadcast quality. I've got some in-car video shot with it and there's no question its the ultimate for our application. A little spendy for the TrackVision budget, however.

Yep, you need to buy the car charger and/or the home charger (whichever doesn't come with it) and splice the home mini-usb to the car charger wires. Takes 10 minutes and you then have unlimited recording time on 12V (think cig. lighter is 5V actually) car power. I think 32 GB will give you about 8 hours of HD video.....

Looks pretty good. Is yours a non-HD Flip or is the video just converted over to standard definition before uploading?

I used the flip pre-traqmate and it was ok. I agree it needs a wide angle lens. I found it particularily difficult to operate when in the race seat.

Holy tree fodder. A guy could really mess up a car and himself going off that track.
