Almost forgot - it's been floating around that the POV 1.5 is an upgrade over the POV.1. I don't believe this to be 100% true.

The 2 use the same recorder and lens. The 1.5 just has the lens tethered permanently VS the 2-piece design of the POV.1.

The 1.5 comes with the ability to use 4/8 GB cards out of the box, whereas the POV.1 requires downloading the free upgrade (takes literally 2 minutes). Lastly, the 1.5 comes with a 4 GB card VS the POV.1 has only a 1 GB.

We've gone ahead and upgraded all of our POV.1 with the new firmware, and include 4 GB cards with the units. So that helps equalize the 2 units.

The real big difference? Mounting solutions. The POV.1 is more geared for in-car style mounts, whereas the POV.1.5 has a better helmet style mount.

Different strokes for different folks!! I just wanted to set the record straight because of too many customers stating that the POV.1.5 is better due to its higher price.

Very nice Rob in VA. I don't have a roll bar/cage, so I was thinking about securing the POV.1 camera head to my helmet for DE's. Some movement, but if it looks that good on a mountain bike....!

Also, I believe video quality depends greatly on the card being used. When I bought my POV.1, I was strongly advised to get something like a Sandisk Extreme III 8GB (30 MB/sec edition) since the card supplied with the unit is a very basic card that doesn't provide great quality.

Realistically, quality isn't really an issue with SD cards. I bet most of them are made in the same Chinese factory with various companies slapping their names on them. Sort of like the $200 Best Buy HDMI cables

Anyone here use facebook? I've posted some great kart videos there:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/OG-Racing/...

The one at the very bottom is from our "real" kart racer. See if you can stand the wind noise in a kart at 100mph

Almost forgot - Regarding instant-on. I just shipped a VIO down to Tim @ Racepak for that very reason...

I agree. I researched alot of cameras before purchasing, including the differences between the POV.1 and 1.5. I opted for the POV.1 primarily since it was cheaper for the same basic unit, the upgrade to 8GB capability was free, and I was going to buy a better SD card anyways. Since I have no roll bar, my mounting options weren't great no matter what mounting gizmos came with the unit, so I decided I'd figure that out later.

Excellent point on the version of POV. I too opted for the POV.1 for the same relational.

Also, these systems are used by lots of pro teams and tv shows.
MTV's Nitro Circus uses it as well

Some more examples:

For the car I use the following suction cup bracket mounted on the windshield (high and to right of the rear-view mirror) with NO vibration issues what-so-ever.

That sucks ! Or not........

Seriously, I got one of the VIOS from Mike at A.W.E. and it is easy to mount a number of different ways. I have mounted it with tie straps in the car and also in the grill with great results.

Interesting. Can you provide me more details using the strap method? Also, what grill?

Ok, maybe grill isn't the best way to describe it.
It was run just under the hood and along the headlight door of a 944 turbo and then mounted in the front (where the fog light is removed for brake vents). Mounted with just a couple tie wraps. Also mounted in car to the rollbar another time. It's real easy to mount if you securely since it doesn't weigh much at all and is so small. When I say mount I am just refering to the bullet camera portion, the rest of the set up is always in car, securely mounted as well.

Could also easily be mounted to tow hook.

Very, very nice. I can't believe how stable considering it was mounted to your helmet! How exactly did you attach the camera head?

I'm sorry, that was a copy-n-paste error from one of my mountain bike videos. The camera was mounted to the windshield using a suction cup mount. The POV is the size of a lipstick camera.
