Yes it does. Again how does that translate in to the feel on the track is my question. I can with much less money get a factory LSD, but I hate to spend the money for that when I should have just spent more and gotten the best LSD I could. Now if one of my parts cars had a factory LSD I would run that in heart beat, But 1k for a used factory LSD box is not my idea of a good deal. I don't need the extra box and what if the LSD is worn? Alot of "what if's" make alot less certain a process. I know with the Guard it is top of the line. However the cost is just up there.

So feed back on guy who ran a Guard and now has factory would be interesting.

I've gone the opposite way and it's chalk and cheese on the track. Also factory one doesn't offer anything on decel from memory.

BTW the factory does have some lock under decel not the same % as a guard however. I could tell this from my stock 944 Turbo S LSD when I drove it a couple seesions on the track.

That was my thought pattern Joe. Why buy a used factory LSD for close to a grand, then pay to rebuild it, and then install it. The pain of installation means I certainly only want to do this once. And the quality of the Guard unit made it a no brainer to spend the extra cash. If I remember my rebuild bill right (trying to forget!), Geo is offering 15-20% off the current cost of a new unit.

Now I just need to tweak my setup and driving for the handling. Even with my ridiculous ride height the car is much more stable under braking than previously, and I don't lose power coming out of tight corners.

Meaning I came from a stock factory LSD and then went to the Motorsport version. The difference is quantifiably better. The stock one was really just designed for road conditions and doesn't offer anything on backoff.
I think you need to bite the bullet Joe.

I believe the factory unit has a 40% lockup on acceleration...only

I have a 50/80 Gaurds Unit; 50% lockup on acceleration and 80% lock up on deceleration.

It has allowed me to threshold break later comming off a long straight for instance and has allowed me to get on the gas sooner comming out of a corner...

As an example I had a PCA 944 racer as my instructor at my first time at Road Atlanta (he had placed 5th in the Daytona race a few months before).
He could not believe how stable the car was breaking at the end of the long back straight and comming onto the front straight. It was probably worth 2 to 4 seconds per lap.

It's well worth the $$ IMHO

Hope that helps.

The factory LSD is a two friction disc unit capable of 40% only. 40% acceleration, 40% deceleration (if the plates are good).

Bump....

Someone please buy this before it goes to eBay. I'd much rather it go to a Rennlister.

OK, I'll give this one more bump. If it doesn't sell I'll just hold onto it or place it on the PCA classifieds. Rather sell it here.

George, it's so tempting but I just don't have it right now.

I know that it would make an amazing transformation to the handling of our 951, similar to what the PMNA cup car diff did for my old RSA.

Geo,

Do you know whether this same (951) unit works with the 968, or is there a different part for the 968?

Thanks.

Guard is the way to go. 50/80. Good on accleration, especially out of corners. Even better in threshold braking.
