Road America.

4 miles long, 14 turns, elevation changes, 'eggers' and brats.

As long as your bring it by Portland on the way out of the region. I would just do a big loop... head south and hit PIR, Thunderhill, and Laguna. Then head east and maybe hit tracks in vegas and maybe texas or AZ.. I'll let the locals speak to those. Then on to Sebring and Road Atlanta. Head north and hit the northeast before heading back across the midwest to the PacNW. On the way home, hit the new track in grass valley, or.. oregon raceway park.

Guess it depends on how ambitious you are... that sounds like a couple good summer vacations to me!!!

Gotta go to the Glen.

While you're there, take 15 minutes and drive the old street grand prix course, imagining the racers in their 1950 cars doing their thing.

While not in the USA, I would also add Mosport (Bowmanville, Ontario) to the list of must drives. Former F1 track with good elevation changes, high speed corners and two downhill blind left handers where you just trust the car will stick. This is a track with some major pucker factor.

If you can, also visit Le Circuit Mt. Tremblant, in the Intrawest resort town of Mt. Tremblant, Quebec, and the new Calabogie, Ontario course. These three tracks are all a few hours from one another.

Skip Lime Rock - but add Mosport (Ontario). Lime Rock's nice, but it's not world class like many of the others.

My favorites (and why)

Midwest:
Road America (Wisconsin) - Long, fast, and seriously fun.
Heartland Park (Topeka, KS) - nice track. Fast, with some fun technical bits.
Putnam Park (Southern Indiana) - Fun, fun, fun rhythm course. about 2 mi long

Southeast:
Road Atlanta (Braselton, GA) - Fast 2.5 mile track with a great history
Barber Motorsports Park (Birmingham, AL) - FANTASTIC facility with a wonderfully technical course (excellent for handling cars) situated in the rolling hills of AL.

There are of course other tracks out there. But these are my favorites.

The fact there there are THREE world class tracks at one facility often splits the vote, hence none of the tracks get any respect.

PS: I'd love some input on the best UNKNOWN tracks for DEs (meaning the tracks that are not household names, but are a real experience for DEs).

I like really liked Lime Rock, but I haven't driven the 'new' Lime Rock this year.
