Not a Boxster, but we are trying to start a CaymanSpec class built on the 3.4 Cayman S. The current driver-led spec is more similar to BSR than to a super spec (no JRZs), but will definitely be a step up in performance.

Follow this link to www.caymanspec.com , open the rules thread, download the proposed rule set and provide your comments.

It appears that we will have the class adopted by at least one organization for 2010.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Is Brad Roberts & Co part of this or is this part of the HSR effort?

Neither. The HSR effort is for the new Gen II car and is mainly in the East. I am not sure where Brad is on his development of a Gen I spec. I do know that he was trying to develop a very high level shop-led spec (JRZ, monoballs, etc.) that the racers I spoke with felt was too expensive to attract club-level entrants (e.g., POC in CA).

CaymanSpec is more of a grass roots effort to develop a race class, versus a series, that can be adopted by any number of organizations (POC, PCA, NASA, etc).

We have been working on this for a while and have good support form at least one club-level organization. Considering that it will take some time to get a meaningful number of cars on track we are working with the clubs to map the spec (CSR) into and existing race class (e.g., R5 with POC) so folks have people to race with in the meantime.

Are the graphics paint or vinyl?

A number of us have been talking about this, and I at least am of the opinion that we wish it were done around a more economical platform. Caymen are still too new and expensive to hope to develop a big class around. A few guys will do it, but not many. If, however; something like this were done around a car like a 944 (heh, heh) then lots of us would love to do retro graphics and jump in.
This would also be more in tune with an HSR approach.
We learned in SCCA that spec classes on new cars are not very efficient, it's still expensive to buy, fix and wod up cars. Showroom Stock suffers for this reason.
Bring on something like Spec Miata and it explodes. There are salvage yards full of cars.
A Cayman is a much nicer car, but I'd rather drive it on the street for a few years before I gut it.
