Default Anyone tried a 255/35/18 on the front of a 968?

I got a call from my tyre guy that a 255/35/18 will work on my 968. It looks like it will clear, I run a lot of negative camber and my arches are rolled somewhat by the previous owner.
Has any one here tried this size on the front of their car?

I personally haven't tried it, but I think it would fit with a correct offset wheel.....I run 18x10 9" backspacing front wheels on my 928 with 295/30-18's with only a bit of fender rolling and double rack stops on the steering rack with no problems.....

I have ordered some for the Glen, but I didn't know for sure if they would work hence the question. Judging by the answers it looks like I wont be needing to buy a pair of 245's just in case. I finished of my last set of 245's at Thunderbolt last week.

Is there any value to running the 255 over the 245 out front?

1.2 inches more of tread on the track which will hopefully help with a min wieght of 3200lbs of car through the turns. I wish I could run lighter but that's my min weight for SP3 and 944SuperCup

I ran 255s on my 968 at Putnam park 2 weeks ago. You have to roll the fenders and raise the ride height some to eliminate any rubbing issues.

Did you like them?
I have rolled fenders, my ride height is 630mm to the wheel arch. Do you think that might be high enough?

I run 275/35/18 Hoosier R6's on the front of my 968...no fender rolling was needed. If you can, why not get as much rubber/stick as you can?

As long as you can afford the tires!

They are only $8 more per tyre and hopefully will last longer .

See you Thursday night Jason

You should be able to fit larger tyres than that, especially with somewhat rolled guards. I have fitted a MPSC 295/18 on the fronts as a test on my car. I currently run 285's all round on the track. Having more tyre up front is a good thing. I'm not sure of the ultimate difference in this regard between the 968 and 951 assuming the 951 is modified and has more hp / tq than the 968, but I'd say go for a 255 at least.
For the short time I've had with the 285 slicks up front I have not noticed ANY negatives in handling.

Jason, I believe you've come down in size (at least on the rears). What are you running all round and would you say there's a noticeable difference to your previous set?

Patrick,

Yes, I've come down from 315/30/18 to 295/30/18 R6's in the rear...While I was doing DE's it seemed the 315's were fine. But, when I started to race, and drive the car harder, the 315's were rubbing. I got black-flagged at Limerock during practice sessions, but they let me back out afterwards.

I've been told the 295's shouldn't react much differently...and I'm keeping the 275's up front.

I'll be trying out this combination at the Glen this coming weekend. We'll see what happens...if anything.

My guess is that I won't feel a difference.
