Mosport.......
How difficult is to learn the track for the club race in July?
Is absolutely mandatory to have been on the track before, or can you just "learn it on the fly?"
Thanks.....

Well Dan, let's just say that I will do more races and less DEs this year.....
There is an DE the week before......only problem is that it is a 9 hour drive.... one way.....
Are you coming up?......
P.S. Fred is just supernatural......I could never come close....

There is a test and tune the day before the 3 day event. In the past few years, the test and tune has been open track, so you can get about 4 hours of driving time in. Also, the first day of the 3 day event is all practice sessions.

just go the race. you'll figure it out enough to survive. don't waste a 9hr trip just to see it before. imho
i did a DE there years ago and was getting around fine (no stopwatch though) after a few sessions and i hadn't even done a race yet. having raced i'd probably pick it up faster now.

Doc, you'll be fine. I've broke my cherry at a track during a race.
Study some video before you go, if you're really intense check out some data from one of us for brake points and get your marks .
At the track follow someone who knows where he's going during practice or even qualifying (fastest line)

Check out the UCR website...there's a good video of a lap there by Rick Bye. THere might be one or two on YouTube too. Although none give justice to Turn 2....

The UCR website, www.pcaucr.org should also provide a link for the sign up for the test and tune the Thursday before the race. The registration is directly with Mosport and not a PCA event. I attended it last year and there were something like thirty cars for the whole day so it was a pretty much an open track; two run sessions, one in the am, one in the pm. They also allow you to ride with a coach so its a great opportunity to hire someone to help you learn the track and help with the driving. I can recommend some UCR guys that are pretty well versed in running that track.
