Mosport.......

You will find Canadian coaches much more reasonably priced. Last year I spent the whole day with a NASA national champ and local UCR coach for $300CAN. Well worth it if its your first time on the track.

There really is no nice place to stay nearby other than perhaps some B&Bs if that's your thing. If quality of accommodations is important, you are looking at a minimum 30 to 40 minute drive.
Staying at the track is a decent option. Mosport has alot of room in the paddocks so just set up once and you're good for the weekend. There are also washrooms with hot showers, although flip-flops are recommended. Last year the Saturday night dinner was at the track and so it made even more sense to stay in.

I've been to a few tracks for the first time for a race. You can do it, just be smart about learning what you can before you go to help with the learning curve.
Mosport, though, is one of the scariest tracks when you drive it at speed. Of course, that's also what makes it one of the best!

BTW: I intend to be at the T&T day on the Thursday prior to the race. If you'd like, I'd be happy to give you a tour of the track. We can either do lead/follow, you can take a ride in my car for a session or two, and/or I could sit in the passenger seat in your car.
Also, at 5:30PM on that Thursday, Rick Bye usually gives a track walk that is pretty informative.
In all, it's an easy track to learn, but a hard one to go really fast on as the turns are much, much faster than you would initially think.

I tend to stay at the Howard Johnson's in Bowmanville. Very basic accommodation, $85 per night Cdn (ask for the Mosport rate). 905-623-3373

The HoJo is more than OK if you stay in the tower (much newer construction) but the motel rooms are worse than the cabins at the Seneca Lodge, so make sure when making your reservation.

Paolo, I think I have some youtube videos of it... try searching.
My first ever outing there was a club race (not even the test an tune day) 4 or 5 years ago. In the first session, I was passed by a 914, but I figured it out just fine.
It's a great track and a great event - lots of track time and well organized (and also a fun place to camp). Sign up - you won't regret it!
