Building a basic weekend racer

I've got to agree with Ken. All to often we get wrapped up in the arms race, and forget that some people (some of us) can just enjoy getting to the track, and be thankful that we can. I currently drive an admittedly ratty (but safe) 944 that I'm willing to throw away if worst comes to worst. But I love it, enjoy every moment, and see Pit Out in my dreams.
Could I spend more - certainly.
Do I want to - of course.
Do I need to - not really.

Alan, you've touched on one of the main reasons that I am agonizing over this decision; mainly, do I use my newly acquired 993 to flog around the track, or is it best to spend the money to have a dedicated track car that you are willing to risk over your daily driver? Tough call to make....

And driving a production based car v. a formula car or sports racer is like _______ your sister? What would the track scene be like if only the top of the top of the top, prep- and modification-wise were allowed to show up?

seriously, people are getting out of racing because of the economy. Buy a sorted track car and be done with it. Spend your dough on seat time
I could have purchased a cup with what I spent developing my GT3. There is always something else you want to improve.
Another option is arrive and drive. It makes sense for some people. you get a crew, consumables even gas for one low price. no headaches, no towing, no maintenance, no 5 months of storage.

I think if you want to just do DE days go get yourself a CDOC/DAS Sport bolt in 1/2 rollbar, some seats, harness and hans. Bleed the brakes with good fluid, get pads (you already did) and add some rubber. Go drive it like that and enjoy it. That simple. Thats probably 3-5k total..
I did just that in my 964 and loved it. I ended up wanting to race, so I kept the 964 and then went with a dedicated race car (SPBOX).
964's are wonderful and capable cars...

I would just call L. Herman and ask him for his build sheet. Ask no questions and just copy it. I went for a ride in his old car today and I am still shaking my head.
Larry, I have to think that you either hit your head or were wayyyyyy high when you decided to sell that car. THat thing is amazing!
I am definately protesting that car when I get in H stock.
