Default Good recommendation for magnetic numbers?

Gang,

Just got my dedicated PCA number for the DE/TT season and was looking into getting away from the blue painters tape and stepping up to professional magnetic numbers I can affix to my '89 C4 at track events.

I know about the Performance Products/Automotion packet (100 clams, ouch) buit they look a little hokey with the logo on the bottom, etc. What I really want is a simple set of magnetic numbers from a good, inexpensive source.

Any ideas?

Thanks all.

How's this for inexpensive? Pete got a large magnetic sheet from Tap Plastics, cut approx 18" diameter circles (traced around the largest mixing bowl I have!), and stuck the vinyl numbers onto that. We've got 3 large for the doors and the front, but a smaller one for the back. We haven't lost one yet!

I checked the Corvette forums and couldnt find much info...

Seriously now, I have done this in the past -- buy some magnet sheet and cut them out. Luckily at work we have a Gerber cutter used for cutting out cfiber patterns, so I use this for cutting other stuff.

I've seen a lot of magnetic number fly off over 120mph. (unless the leading edge was taped)

(shelf) contact paper works pretty good. & cheap... save the magnetic stuff for autox.

I get all of my numbers from Sean at iZoom Graphics. I do not like magnetic numbers as I've lost many of them at the race track. Sean makes sets of single use stickers that you apply to the car for the event and the discard. They are very inexpensive and look great.

I can second izoomgraphics. I actually get multiple uses (3-4 DE) from the adhesive numbers. IIRC I spent $35 on a set of numbers. I had the numbers in 48 hours as well, so quick turnaround. I'll order a new set from them next DE.

I just bought a couple sheets of vinyl magnetic sheets, and cut my numbers out of that. I used my computer to print out numbers with a font I liked.

The magnetic numbers will come loose at speed. Annoying for you, really not fun for the guy behind you.

+1000. I lost some magnetic numbers at Road America despite taping the leading edge. Now I use contact paper. (actually I bought a slew of vinyl number sets online, cut a bunch of circles of white contact paper using a dinner plate, and affixed the vinyl numbers to the contact paper. Looks good and works great. Just peel off and throw away at the end of the weekend.)

You guys must have bought the cheap ones. Everyone I know has had perfect experience with them. 150 MPH on the back straight at Watkins Glen and zero issues. Been using them for years and I even stopped using leading edge tape as they simply aren't going anywhere. Maybe I have thicker (stronger) magnetic material.

OK....were can I find contact paper in black to cut out my own numbers?

For Chin I get to use the same number all the time...with PCA they keep changing it up on me all the time.

thanks!
