Tom, don't know if you made a decision yet but here is what I use:

http://www.asedeals.com/automotive_floor_jacks.html

The AFF 200T at $259.00, no shipping right now is a fantastic deal. It is heavy and I like that right now. I am tire of the crappy lightweight annual replacement jacks. It is low, 2 3/4", long handled at 50" (think approaching the back axle of a tow pickup from behind the bed no problem) fits under a lowered GT3 easy, has a padded lift point. Bulletproof. 20" height. VERY smooth release action.

If it isn't the perfect jack for track weekends (heavy) but it is the jack that lives in the shop. It isn't exactly what you were looking for I suppose, as a pit jack, but thought it was worth mentioning for the many of us out there frustrated by the options.

Made in USA, built to last, good bang for the buck.

Everyone has a favorite, and I have three in the garage because I couldn't find one that I liked and didn't weigh the 2 or 3 tons that was posted. I have a Torin, not the 199 lightweight, and it is the worst of the three; some other heavy son of a gun which works fine but weighs 100 pounds. I found this lightweight jack from Tire Rack, http://www.tirerack.com/accessories/detail.jsp?ID=67, and it is terrific. $169, light and very easy to handle, low clearance ability, few pumps for full extension, and holds the car without a slow let down. I give it a high recommendation.

ALWAYS use jack stands!!!

I was watching with interest because I need a new jack too, weight is not that much of an issue, it will live in the trailer and shop, but for me, It *must not* be made in China. Preferably made in USA. The AFF 200T @ asedeals jack is my saviour it appears. Thx guys!

See you this weekend Tom (you will be at TH right?)

Uh oh:

We source all over the world to find the highest quality equipment at the best possible price.
Maybe not made in USA. I don't see anywhere on the site showing they are made in USA. Great.

Very astute Kgorman. I see that now too. I guess one would have to call AFF at 800-255-0555 to see if the 200T and others actually are sourced in good old USA.
On the upside AFF itself is an American company employing local workers. Can't be all bad. Good catch though.

I'm with you, too, Kenny. I was stunned to see that the Snap On is made in China now, too... $550? made in China. Wow....

Just doing a bit of research... No affiliation.. There are a couple of brands made in USA. None of them inexpensive. But I have resigned myself to paying for it.

Arcan? (looks like it might be... people say they got it at Costco..):
http://arcanusa.com/images/catalog.pdf

Hein-Werner (don't see a low profile option)
http://www.ohiohydraulic.com/catalog...05_Catalog.pdf

US-JACK (no low profile)
http://www.usjack.com/Parts_Manuals/...OOR%20JACK.pdf

Gray: (no low profile?)
http://www.grayusa.com/ourHistory.asp

Norco: (low profile but it's huge)
http://www.norcoind.com/norco/products_71155B.shtml

And if you can find one used or someone who still has stock, the AC Hydraulics are top rated and made in Denmark.

I am not yet sure what to go with. I will call Arcan tomorrow and see if they are made in USA.

Kenny, I have one of the AC/Esco jacks and they are great. They have about 3.5" clearance.

I'm debating the $1000 jack vs. installing air jacks.

Check out Milwaukee Hydraulics. Made and assembled in USA and arguably one of the best jacks you can get. Should last you about 30-yrs. But it's not cheap. I got the 2-ton and like it a lot. The only thing to get used to is handle needs to be in the down position to release the lift. I called them got a better price than I found web-searching.

Only 17 1/2 inches max height and takes more than 3 pumps so it's not the "holy grail" but I've beat the **** out of two of these for more than two years and haven't had a problem.

You can grind the saddle plates to make the 3" easily.
Best Jack for the price. My neighbor has this jack and has used it daily for a couple of years. He has a shop at his house that he works on cars on the side. Strong, light-weight and durable. Just 1/4 too tall.

I still have not found a jack with a low point of 2 1/2". I do not need a top quality jack, just one that fits and is not too expensive. 3" works only if I remove the rubber pad.

Yes i am an idiot and yes it slipped of the jack, made a small crease in the side skirt...

Any recommendations are welcome!
