If cost is a concern you really don't want that. People that can afford it will bring 2 sets of sticker Hoosiers every weekend plus rains whereas if you spec the R888 it will be of little advantage to have low heat cycle tires for every race and qualifying session. The less latitude people have the more even the playing field will be. If I'm not mistaken the World Challenge 997s run R888s.

I am pretty sure there is a thread here where the tire argument has been exhausted over many pages a ways back. All of us are open minded and are trying things out this year. Who knows where it will go at this point. I have a fresh set of hoosiers for this testing weekend, but always open to try new things if that's where it goes.

Any in-car videos of the 996 Spec cars? I've been contemplating doing this and am pleasantly surprised to see all this momentum already in place.

Here's my rookie PCA race. Run in the rain, so the speeds are not all the exciting, but the driving certainly was.

I've put the brakes on further development because the rules that came out didn't make sense.

Everybody thought 245 front and 285 rear for tires, but that does work on 8's and 10's. Diameter is about an inch different. 225F/285R works. Hoosiers, not good for cost. PSS10's, not the ideal step up from Boxster Spec. GT3 cup wing, too much drag and too expensive.

I still contend that a car prepared to PCA H stock specifications will be faster, and that will hurt the spec. Right now, the "Super Boxster Spec" that is being discussed within the Spec Boxster Group would wind up faster, IMHO.

Here's where I think the Spec lies: changes in blue

Moton or JRZ Double Adjustable Club Sport w/any spring rate
Toyo R888's or even BFG R1's size 225/18F and 285/18R (295 might also work)
Any GT3 road wing off any year 996 GT3 (RS included)
Lexan side Windows allowed
Any non-metallic bushing material allowed. (this will allow use of Grand Am parts from PCNA)
Allow any wheel as long as offset and weight is not different than stock Porsche 8 & 10 inch wheel.Allow full removal of Heating and A/C systems and related components
Weight of 2875 w/driver
GT3 Sway bars w/any drop links
Rotors and pads are free
Allow Center Radiator
Allow Trans Cooler
Allow short shifter
Exhaust free after Catalytic Converter
Allow Single Mass/Lightweight Flywheel from approved list (determine suppliers)
Engine to remain Stock from Airbox to Exhaust header

No issue with those recommendations (in fact I like 'em), even the Motons/JRZs but any reason why you did not include/allow JICs- too ghetto?

Because Moton and JRZ's are a very similar shock. Hell, I have Ohlins, and I didn't even include them on my suggestion.

If anyone has a lead on a MK I roller, let me know. My car is toast from the Road Atlanta race.

Too painful and stupid to talk about. ASk me again when I am back on the track, and I'm sure I will laugh about it then.

Sorry to hear about that Mark. It really was a very pretty and well constructed car.

I admired the car (on and off the track)- I'm sure Mark will be back better than ever with this car or another.
