Certainly the McLaren's were faster than Massa during quali. 
It's really difficult to gauge the real speed of these (I hate to say this), 2nd tier, perhaps even 3rd tier teams of Ferrari and McLaren because of all the issues they have been having (Ferrari with reliability and Heikki would can't complete 2 turns before his race is over). The other issue is that both races have been absolutely crazy in terms of what has happened. Hamilton has been the only one of the 4 who has really gone deep into both races and he only has 1 point to show for it.
That being said, it does look like the McLaren has better race pace than the Ferraris and Ferrari the slightly better qualifying pace.
The real question is who can catch Brawn? I think everyone else on the grid was fortunate that yesterdays race didn't go the distance and Brawn only collected half the points they would have. The scary part is that the rain was supposed to be the great equilizer. Brawn cars were still very fast and that does not look good for the rest. Couple that with the fact that Brawn cars have shown to be fast on a street/park circuit as well as a traditional track... scary stuff for the rest of the field.
Virgin paid $250k for their logo on the Brawn cars the last 2 races and got about $10m of exposure. What if Larry takes up a collection and we get a Rennlist Logo on the car? Just a small one, nothing fancy....
Wayne, you posted the post qualifying weights of the cars after the Aussie race, but not after this race. Can you post those everytime after qualifying? It makes it easier.

You shouldn't pretend to know anything, that way you won't come up short again.

FIA President Max Mosley has made early suggestions for a revolutionary new engine; the powerplant, which could be introduced for the 2013 season, would feature in various FIA series ranging from Formula 1 to the World Rally Championship.
"We're looking at the moment at a world engine for 2013," Mosley said during a press conference at Rally Portugal last weekend. "That's to say an engine that would work in turbocharged form for F1, all the way down to a naturally aspirated form for the lesser categories. It's very early days, and we are doing this in consultation with the manufacturers; there's no question of us doing something between now and 2013, it's simply too short a period of time. If the idea of a world engine really starts to work, what exactly will happen in 2013 remains to be seen. What we would like to do is have an engine, take F1 for an example, where the base engine is not the subject of development."
Mosley explained that the FIA believes that, to ensure running costs are minimized, the engine itself should remain in one form with only added features, such as the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), being developed further.
Mosley continued: "Our basic objective is that the money spent in motorsport on research and development should be relevant and useful to the car industry, rather than a highly specialised area which has no relevance to anything else and, if we can - and I'm not sure we can though - find a way of combining all forms of motorsport in that system - that would be useful because of the huge sums spent on motorsport. It's not beyond our possibility that those sums could produce something useful for the future - even if it's long time in the future."

Weber: Schumacher criticism unfounded

Michael Schumacher's manager Willi Weber has labelled as "idiotic" the criticism aimed at the seven-time world champion following the Malaysian Grand Prix.
German and Italia media report that Schumacher, who works as a consultant for the Ferrari team, was the man in charge of making the decision that ruined Kimi Raikkonen's race on Sunday, the Finn switching to extreme weather tyres too early.
Weber said Schumacher had nothing to do with it.
The German also suggested the former world champion's contract with Ferrari was unlikely to be renewed.
"The criticism aimed at Schumacher is totally idiotic," Weber was quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport. "His contract with Ferrari ends at the end of the year, but I don't know whether it will be renewed.
"The attack against Schumacher makes no sense. He knows everyone and was in Sepang just by chance. The decisions from the pit wall were taken by the team.
"It's possible that his contract won't be renewed, but there will be a meeting midway through the year, so we'll have to wait.
"Should his contract really not be renewed, then it would certainly not be because of the Malaysian GP. Michael may give some advice to the team, but he is not the team leader nor the team manager at Ferrari."
Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali refused to speak about Schumacher's situation following the race on Sunday.
"This is something we will discuss internally.............

Looks like you edited your previous KVA reference to measure a voltage. Good for you.... You probably need to think a wee bit... How many antennae are around a racing circuit? Do you really think that lightening would choose a car with fat rubber tyres over a pointy antenna to get down? If you do, please tell me that you are not an electrical engineer!

I had been thinking about Grand Prix's of yore and the MIGHTY Cosworth DFV came to mind.
That engine has been in lots of places/teams.
Ferrari needs to get a better crystal ball.

why does the appeals process take so damned long? it's amazing to me that they wouldn't settle this sooner to avoid an additional race's worth of penalty to whomever the FIA rules against.....

I agree, now you have teams wasting money developing parts that could be declared illegal as soon as they finish developing them. That is pure stupidity, just so a group of stiffs can have time to ponder on it. Maybe the FIA should have to pay for the wasted money for taking so long.
